Netflix’s Lady Gaga: Five Foot Two will take Mother Monster to new heights

Rah-rah-ooh-la-la, Little Monsters! Netflix’s upcoming documentary, Lady Gaga: Five Foot Two, will dive into Gaga’s fame, loneliness, and feud with Madonna.

Every time I try to think of a metaphor to describe Netflix’s pantheon of content and talent, I come up with absolutely nothing because Netflix is one of a kind. It’s just this massive, cryptid beast that keeps on going. Though we may not have any solid revenue reports or things like that, for a good indication of how things are going over there, just consider this: They have Gaga.

In a new documentary that will first premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before it hits Netflix on Sept. 22, fans will be able to go behind the scenes of Gaga’s experiences while creating her album, Joanne, and preparing for her iconic Super Bowl performance.

First teased on her social media accounts, TIFF explains what Little Monsters and Netflix subscribers alike will get a taste of in Five Foot Two:

"In brief moments of studio downtime, Gaga reflects on some the controversies that still swirl around her: her relationship with Madonna, her forays into politics, her tightrope walk between being object and subject in her own career. Gaga is nothing if not self-aware, speaking frankly and with deep insight into navigating the music industry as someone too often seen simply as a “hot woman.”"

Additionally, TIFF lists appearances from other musicians like Mark Ronson and Florence Welch (of Florence + the Machine).

With 12 posts on Instagram, Lady Gaga unveiled the new poster for the documentary. Plus, she included three previews that detail her life of loneliness and feud with Madonna. “I go from people touching me all day and talking at me all day to total silence,” she explains sadly in one clip. Then, in another, it seems like she’s about to say why she has beef with Madonna, but it suddenly fades to black.

For reference, Madonna called Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” reductive back in 2012. Whether it blew over or not remains to be seen apparently, but I think Evan Bogart said it best here to The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s Lady Gaga! She doesn’t care if she wears a meat suit on stage or arrives in an incubator. Do you think she’s gonna care if people are like, ‘Your song sounds like Madonna?'”

Well, I guess we’ll find out when Lady Gaga: Five Foot Two hits Netflix on Sept. 22.
