There are over 8 million children living in orphanages and institutions. Over 80% of those also have at least one living parent that is too poor to care for them. There is plenty of research to back the claim that living in institutions are not only harmful for children’s health but also their development. Children thrive the best in a family environment and that’s exactly what they all deserve.
This is why J.K. Rowling founded the non profit organization Lumos. The Lumos Foundation has made the goal of getting all children family care by 2050 their top priority. Lumos trains professionals with the abilities to provide children with the care they need. With the power to redirect funds from orphanages and institutions to where they can really do some good. Community based services that work to keep families together.
The experience
