3 things The Lowe Files fans will love: The Rabbit Hole

Fans of the supernatural, and of supernaturally good looking Hollywood heartthrobs, are about to have a new obsession. The Lowe Files premieres Wednesday night on A&E, but it’s not the only outlet for your paranormal pastime.

Is anyone else super psyched about The Lowe Files? Just me? Okay, so, if you haven’t heard, The Lowe Files is a new series premiering on A & E on Wednesday night. The show will follow full-on ageless actor Rob Lowe, and his two sons, Matthew and John Owen, as they travel across the country in search of Bigfoot, and aliens, and ghosts. Random? Yes. Awesome? Definitely.

Now I love Rob Lowe as much as the next person, maybe more due to my unnatural obsession with The West Wing, but what I’m really looking forward to with this series, is the supernatural element. So, if you’re a fan of all things unexplained and mysterious like me, here are three other things you might want to check out.

Spook by Mary Roach

Gotta give a shout-out to one of my all-time favorite authors, Mary Roach. Roach is a science writer but her writing style is anything but sterile. She’s actually hilarious. And she’s done several books where she finds an unusual aspect of the scientific world and dives in head-first. My favorite in this vein is Stiff, her exploration of all the ways dead bodies are used (gross but so fascinating), but in this case, I’d recommend Spook, an examination of ghosthunting and the afterlife. Roach spent time in labs with real-life ghostbusters, scientists, mediums, and other researchers and her findings were spooky, to say the least.

Where did the Road Go? Podcast

If you like your paranormal research with a little less snark, consider checking out Where did the Road Go? The podcast, which is hosted by unknown-enthusiast Seriah Azkath, has been on the air since 2013, talks about everything from ghosts to UFOs to Bigfoot with a straight face, and a respect for the people who dedicate their lives to uncovering the truth behind some of civilizations biggest mysteries. The show airs live every Saturday night on WVBR in Ithaca, New York but it also streams online at wheredidtheroadgo.com.

Wayward Sisters

In the other direction, we’ve got full-blown fiction. Supernatural, the show about two dreamy brothers facing off against, well, supernatural, foes each week, has been a hit on the CW since 2005. And now, the bro-heavy series is finally getting a lady-powered spin-off.

Last month, the Supernatural team announced that after a major fan push to focus more attention on the show’s female characters–Sheriff Jody Mills, Sheriff Donna Hanscum, Claire, Alex—a spin-off is indeed in the works. No word on premiere date, but Wayward Sisters is in our future.

And in the meantime, you can always watch Sam and Dean take on some shapeshifters or leprechauns in the original.
