The Transparent season 4 trailer dropped this week, and the series spoke out forcefully against President Trump’s proposed transgender policies.

The trailer for season 4 of Amazon’s award-winning original series Transparent arrived this week. The series tells the story of a  transgender woman and her family and stars Jeffrey Tambor, Judith LIght, Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass, and Gaby Hoffman. And more importantly, it tackles issues of identity, acceptance, family, and love.

Transparent will launch its fourth season on Sept. 22. And in it, we will see the Pfefferman family come together and dig into their family’s history. When Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) heads back to Israel to speak at a conference, a startling discovery ensues. This prompts the rest of the family to join her. And eventually, they all end up on their own paths to find acceptance of truth.

As these things go, the trailer doesn’t give away much. But it does include shots of the Wailing Wall, the Dead Sea, camels in the desert, and other beautiful scenery. And this group journey of self-discovery will doubtless lead to much general Pfefferman family silliness, if previous seasons are anything to go by. (We just don’t know what exactly it’ll all look like yet. But that’s half the fun, isn’t it?)

But the Transparent team didn’t just announce the Season 4 premiere date this week. They also took the opportunity to make a forceful political statement. And they strongly denounced President Trump’s proposed ban on transgender service in the military.

The group’s full statement was released to People.com. In it, the Transparent team slammed the Trump administration’s recent activities and message. And their words are both eloquent and powerful.

"Sharing this work amidst President Trump’s continued assault on the transgender community is painful. We are outraged that he announced in a tweet that transgender people would not be allowed to serve ‘in any capacity’ in the U.S. military. It is reprehensible to deny an estimated 15,000 current trans service members, and 134,000 trans veterans, the dignity, respect and safety that they deserve. At Transparent we believe in the integrity of the trans community, which we know firsthand because we are all either trans or allies to the trans community. It is a revolutionary act for a trans person to simply leave the house and walk down the street. We tap into the incredible history of survival the trans community has achieved against all odds, knowing that our fight is noble and on the side of justice and human rights."

The Transparent team also directly addressed those transgender individuals currently serving in the military. They vowed to “work in solidarity with” them, and called transgender stories “more important than ever” right now.  And their statement ended by encouraging viewers to follow GLAAD’s Trump Accountability Project. That website is a resource which tracks the Trump administration’s statements and activities regarding  LGBTQ rights.
