A Wrinkle in Time: A look at who’s who in the cast
For decades, many have loved the book A Wrinkle in Time without a real movie to back it up. Well Ava DuVernay is changing that and her cast is amazing!
A Wrinkle in Time taught so many of us that our only limitations are those we put on ourselves. Reading that book, you fall in love with Meg Murry and her journey to find her father. You don’t feel insignificant or like you have to be a superhero to save the world. You feel empowered just as Meg does.
It’s a fantastic book and, from the looks of it, it’s going to be an amazing movie. Brought to life by the visionary director Ava DuVernay, Disney is taking us on a journey through space and time to try and track down Dr. Alex Murry.
Now the trailer has people wondering just how important Chris Pine (Dr. Alex Murry) is going to be in the actual film. For those who don’t know, Meg and Charles-Wallace’s father is barely in the book. But really, if you have Chris Pine in your movie, you’re going to use him.
So we’re looking at who’s who in the cast and seeing what we’re most excited about!
Storm Reid

Taking on the role of our beloved Meg Murry, Storm Reid seems to be the star on the rise we all need to watch out for. Rowan Blanchard is also in the film but we’re focusing on the amazing Storm. Meg, the daughter of two brilliant scientists, goes on this journey to find her father with her youngest brother.
The only daughter of Kate and Alex Murry, Meg has taught us for years that being young or being female doesn’t stop us from saving everyone. She is strong and brilliant and she goes on this adventure to find her dad without question.
Deric McCabe
Playing the ever intelligent Charles-Wallace, Deric McCabe is so cute! Which is perfect for this role. Charles-Wallace is Meg’s younger brother. I’m not sure if the movie will feature her twin brothers or not (they’re really not important until later books). But either way, Charles-Wallace goes on this journey with his sister.
He’s exceptionally smart and usually spends his days with their mother. He was very young when their father vanished but still loves him and wants to find him just as much as Meg does.
Levi Miller

Calvin O’Keefe, the character that Levi Miller plays, goes on the journey with the Murry children because of a backstory that makes us ache for him. He’s sweet and cares so much about Meg and Charles-Wallace because of how much they care about their family.
His family doesn’t particularly care about him so he is makeshift adopted into the Murry family as they go and search for Dr. Alex Murry.
Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon

The Mrs. are an important part of A Wrinkle in Time. They’re the three who take Meg, Charles-Wallace, and Calvin on this journey. Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), and Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey) teach the children to save their father and the world on their own.
The Mrs. don’t just easily save the day and walk away. They force Meg, Calvin, and Charles-Wallace to work together and it’s a wonderful message.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw

While Dr. Kate Murry might not be a very important character in this first book, they sure did get an amazing actress to portray her. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a brilliant woman and while Kate, at least in the books, isn’t very prominent, they may add more to her character in the movie.
Kate is an illusive scientist who locks herself away to work on the time travel-enabling tesseract that her and her husband, Alex, discovered together.
Chris Pine

Chris Pine, honestly our most underrated actor if you ask me, plays Dr. Alex Murry. Basically he creates the tesseract, has to help them use it, and vanishes into this crazy world the kids find themselves in.
From the trailer, it’s pretty clear that Chris Pine does an incredible job as Murry. Now, I’m probably super biased but it’s fine. My favorite actor is getting the hype he deserves and I’m going to boast about it!
Now there are plenty of other characters but I think I have given enough away. If you haven’t read A Wrinkle in Time, I highly suggest doing so before this movie comes out. It’s a wonderful story that teaches us all that we can save the world!
