Game of Thrones season 7 premiere: Twitter reactions

Game of Thrones is back for season 7 and it’s probably the only thing you’ll be hearing about for a while. Here’s what was buzzing online after Sunday night’s premiere.

Last year, Game of Thrones had more than 25 million viewers. On Sunday night when season 7 of the epic drama premiered, it felt like there were just as many GoT fans buzzing online, if not more. Before the show, social media users were proposing fan theories, making predictions, shipping Brienne of Tarth and Tormund, and arguing over whether Twitter should be a spoiler-free platform. Even a few famous Twitter accounts had GoT-related input throughout the day Sunday.

Gwendoline Christie, who plays fan favorite Brienne of Tarth on the show, reminded her fans Sunday morning that her weekend appearance at #D23 to promote the new Star Wars movie wasn’t the only big event she had going on:

And then there was Zach Braff humble-bragging that he was hanging with Jon Snow and the rest of us weren’t. Rude.

Ed Sheeran also let fans know he’d be watching GoT Sunday night and suggested that they should be, too (he also shared a super cute cat photo, which we all appreciated). Sheeran’s tweet turned out to be a not so subtle hint that his much-anticipated cameo on the show would be in Sunday night’s episode. The singer played, wait for it … a singer/soldier who encounters Arya Stark in the woods of the Riverlands.

After the show aired, Sheeran tweeted again. This time it was an Instagram screenshot of himself in his GoT cameo. He looked like he was having a pretty good time enjoying roasted rabbit and blackberry wine with Arya Stark and his fellow soldiers:

Sheeran’s appearance had plenty of other people chattering, too. Chris Kattan of SNL fame (what has he been up to lately, by the way?) weighed in on Twitter with a delightful superimposed image of Sheeran atop the Iron Throne, which, we have to admit, is an ascendent to the Throne we hadn’t considered before:

Others got creative with their Sheeran predictions. I think I speak for all of us when I say we would have liked to see something in the Sheeran as Jaqen H’ghar vein:
