3 things Game of Thrones fans will love: The Rabbit Hole

Game of Thrones is back on Sunday but that might not be soon enough for truly devoted fans. Here are three suggestions for other ways to get your epic fantasy series fix:

Alright Game of Thrones fans, ready to spread your wings and really let your fandom soar? (That’s a dragon joke.) Unless you’ve been living in the cave of the three-eyed raven, you know Game of Thrones returns to HBO on Sunday. So how can you get your epic fantasy series fix while you wait?

We’ve got a few suggestions:

The Accursed Kings series

You’ve probably already read through the Game of Thrones books (at least until George R.R. Martin gets around to finishing the next one) so consider checking out The Accursed Kings series by Maurice Druon.

Because of all the dragons and magic super old ladies, a lot of people compare Thrones to other fantasy series like Lord of the Rings. But Martin himself may have been inspired by this historical fiction saga set in Medieval France. Druon started writing the books back in the ’50s and Martin actually wrote the intro for a reissued translation a few years ago, calling the series “the original Game of Thrones.” You might not have time to read much before Sunday, but still.

WiC Live on Winter is Coming

Next, I’ve gotta give a shout-out to Culturess sister site Winter is Coming, and the team’s weekly WiC Live show in particular. Hardcore Thrones fans can get the run down every Monday morning throughout season 7 on everything from the deeper meaning of episode titles to potential spinoff rumors from my colleagues Dan Selcke and Kayla Knierim.

With the premiere coming (along with winter), my guess is next week’s show will be extra throne-tastic.

Risk, Game of Thrones edition

And if you’re more interested in the “game” part of Game of Thrones, our last suggestion this week is jumping into the whole conquering kingdoms thing yourself with Game of Thrones RISK. Yes, it’s a real thing; yes, it’s super expensive, but if you can think of a better way to get into the quest for the Iron Throne mindset before the season starts, we’d like to hear it. And it actually might not be before the season starts, because this game takes forever. Pick it up at the HBO store online or on Amazon.

Next: When is the Game of Thrones red carpet premiere?

Check back next week for more ways to further fuel your fandom.
