Taylor Swift has such a large back catalog that it’s hard to pick a favorite song but our song of the week seems fitting. After all, July 9 has passed and that’s the month we reflect back on Swift’s song “Last Kiss”. Most fans consider July 9 a national holiday, and it should be.

Swifties from all around the world stay up until 1:58 to listen to the track. The time is a big deal in the song, just like most Swift songs. But this one is special. Swift sings in the first verse, “I still remember the look on your face/ lit through the darkness at 1:58,” and later sings about July 9. “I do recall now / the smell of the rain / fresh on the pavement / I ran off the plane / that July 9 / the beat of your heart / it jumps through your shirt / I can still feel your arms”. It’s raw and emotional, and you can tell in Swift’s voice as she sings. Not to mention, Swift wrote this song when she was only 19 years old. We’re amazed.

"“I still remember the look on your face/ lit through the darkness at 1:58”"

The song is so powerful that others cover it as well, making it sound poignantly beautiful like it should. To be honest, we can’t really blame others for wanting to cover the track. After all, it is a masterpiece.

"“I do recall now / the smell of the rain / fresh on the pavement / I ran off the plane / that July 9 / the beat of your heart / it jumps through your shirt / I can still feel your arms”."

What better way to celebrate one of the most lyrically profound songs in Swift’s career than the week of July 9? It only makes sense to us. Listen to Swift’s version below and stream it now on Apple Music and other streaming services.
