Looks like Dr. Dre will be working on Eminem’s secretive new album

Dr. Dre has had a hand in Eminem’s music career since the very beginning, so it’s no surprise that he’s working “in the eleventh hour” for what comes next.

Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve come a very long way since Eminem first signed to Aftermath Records, that’s for sure. Since the real Slim Shady stood up nearly two decades ago, we’ve watched Eminem drop a wealth of albums, some more distasteful than others. But he achieved legendary status such a long time ago, it made all the sense in the world that he would decide to step back from the limelight after The Marshall Mathers LP 2 earned the rapper another Grammy several years ago.

But as anyone in the music industry will tell you, legends never die. And more importantly, they hardly ever stay out of the studio for good. While details of Eminem’s new album remain mostly under wraps, there are reports that 2 Chainz, whose involvement with Eminem arose from a surreptitious opportunity of sorts, is a part of the project. As he explained to XXL:

"“I’ve heard it all, you know what I’m saying? I’ve heard it all. You know, this like rap talk. It’s like, you see a rapper in the club and you’re like, ‘Let’s do one.’ It’s cap, you know what I mean? So you know, he’s like, ‘The boy wanna do something with you.’ And I’m like, ‘Whatever.’”"

On a less surprising note, longtime friend Dr. Dre appears to be on board as well. To promote the new HBO documentary series about Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, which features a multitude of artists and industry execs, director Allen Hughes told Uproxx:

"“People don’t know this: Dre records every day. Literally, he’s in there recording songs every day. He’s like Picasso in that way. He’s always painting. Right now he’s producing, in the 11th hour, a track for Eminem’s latest album. So Dre’s still real active in music, you know?”"

Now, even as a lukewarm rap fan, I think that statement should be met with a resounding, “duh.” But that’s just me. Of course, Dr. Dre still visits the studio. And of course, he’d help produce an album for Eminem. I mean, did anyone really forget about Dre?
