Oh the humanity! Selma Blair is officially joining the Heathers reboot. And the show looks like it’ll be just as dark and campy as the original movie.
How very. Deadline reports that Selma Blair will play a recurring role in the Heathers reboot!
The show will air on the Paramount Network in 2018. Set in the present day, Heathers will be an anthology series that follows Grace Victoria Cox’s Veronica Sawyer. Veronica will deal with her own group of Heathers. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Heathers are all “outcasts have become high school royalty.” Heather Duke, for example, is now named Heath and identifies as gender-queer.
Blair will play Jade, Heather Duke’s stepmom. She’s just waiting until her 82-year-old husband dies so she can get his money. Deadline describes her as “a stripper menthol smoker who is rough around the edges, but with a bit of glamour to her.”
Blair announced her new role on Instagram writing, “Do I look like step Mother Theresa? @heathers #paramountnetwork2018.” Well, Blair definitely knows her Heathers quotes! And she’s definitely ready to get into character.
Blair seems perfect for a Heathers reboot. She was in her fair share of Heathers-like offbeat movies in the past like Cruel Intentions, Pretty Persuasion, and more. She is, of course, also well known for Legally Blonde and most recently appeared in projects like American Crime Story and Anger Management.
Blair joins James Scully, Melanie Field, and Jasmine Mathews in the Heathers reboot. And the original Heather Duke herself Shannen Doherty will even guest star in the show, which is absolutely amazing.
Heathers is simply perfect. The original 1988 dark comedy follows Winona Ryder’s Veronica Sawyer. She’s part of the popular clique in school (The Heathers) but is increasingly fed up with their behavior. Once she hooks up with the new guy in school, J.D., she goes on an accidental killing spree and quickly realizes she has to take J.D. down.
Honestly, I was a little worried about a Heathers reboot. This was a go-to movie in my angstier days. It’s dark, it’s smart, and it’s hilarious even if you didn’t grow up in the ’80s. You just don’t mess with the classics.

But I’m really excited to see what a modern take on Heathers looks like. So far, I love the cast and the changes they’re making to the story. But they’re still definitely keeping the original tone of the movie. It’ll be dark, campy, and wonderfully nostalgic. Now they just need to throw in some classics like a quick “What is your damage, Heather?” or “Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast?” and I’ll be satisfied. Our love is God. Let’s go get a slushie.
