The CW released its fall premiere date schedule and here’s what we recommend
By Buckie Wells
With all the Arrowverse and other CW shows returning this fall, we take a look at which shows are worth tuning into and which you could probably skip.
Say what you will about The CW, but its fanbase remains pretty loyal. Admittedly, it’s a niche network and doesn’t pull any sort of ratings comparable to the major networks like NBC, CBS or ABC, but it’s still where a good chunk of people go to get their weekly superhero fix.
Now, all the regular programming wrapped, with shows like iZombie preparing to finish the season as well. But Thursday saw the release of fall’s premiere schedule, and as per usual, everything’s off until October.
Here’s the schedule, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Right off the bat, I omitted the iHeart Radio Music Festival, which airs on Wednesday, Oct. 4:
"MONDAY, OCTOBER 98:00-9:00pm SUPERGIRL (Season Premiere)9:00-10:00pm VALOR (Series Premiere)TUESDAY, OCTOBER 108:00-9:00pm THE FLASH (Season Premiere)9:00-10:00pm DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (Season Premiere)WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 118:00-9:00pm RIVERDALE (Season Premiere)9:00-10:00pm DYNASTY (Series Premiere)THURSDAY, OCTOBER 128:00-9:00pm SUPERNATURAL (Season Premiere)9:00-10:00pm ARROW (Season Premiere)FRIDAY, OCTOBER 138:00-9:00pm CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND (Season Premiere)9:00-10:00pm JANE THE VIRGIN (Season Premiere)"
So we return Oct. 9 with Supergirl season 3. If you’ve been around Culturess, then you probably know that we really like Supergirl here … or really, any female superheroes or shows that put kickass women at the forefront. That’s kind of our thing.
Obviously, Valor and Dynasty are new, but it depends on how The CW you are. If you fall into their key demographic and have been watching Supernatural for the past 12 seasons, then those shows might be for you. Though, Riverdale, which is not a fantasy show really, went for sex appeal combined with edginess and settled into the network pretty well.
But if you consider yourself in a slightly more mature fanbase and need to widen your programming, then you should look to Friday nights where two of The CW’s best programs will be teaming up. Previously, Jane the Virgin used to follow Supergirl on Monday nights. But now, it’s paired with another award-winning show known for its crafty storytelling and sharp writing, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
