Big Riverdale casting news: Two major characters get updates next season
By Sundi Rose
In some big Riverdale casting news, two characters are getting a change up next season, and we’re definitely here for it all.
In recent Riverdale casting news, the CW made two major announcements. The show has found it’s new Reggie and will update Kevin to “series regular” next season.
On the heels of this week’s season finale, we’re getting some major casting updates. For one, Archie’s main antagonist will have a new face. Throughout season one, Ross Butler played Reggie, but his presence was limited to just a few episodes. Butler will return for another season of his other show 13 Reasons Why, so he’s been replaced with a more available actor.
Showrunners plan for Reggie to have a stronger showing in the next season, so they had to recast to allow for more screen time.
Kevin Keller is a series regular
In other big news, Riverdale has upgraded fan favorite Kevin Keller to a series regular. Kevin is known for being the first openly gay character in the Archie Comics universe, and he first appeared in 2010.
Fans love Kevin for his snarky quips and insightful running commentary, and he provides a little campy comic relief when the show takes itself too seriously. Kevin is Betty’s best friend, and he’s one of the best things about the series. The CW means to reward actor Casey Cott for it. According to TV Line, ” Cott will return for the second season in a higher-profile capacity.”
The popularity of the show means we’re going to read a lot about the series over the summer. We already know that Mark Consuelos is set to play Hiram Lodge in season two. And now, with the revelation that Betty has a long lost older brother, we’re speculating about who will play them.

As many Archie fans already know, Sabrina the Teenage Witch is from this universe, and there’s a lot of guess work about when and if she’ll show her magical face. Riverdale’s main boss Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is responsible for this show and the Sabrina spin off, so it’s likely.
Either way, we’ll be around all summer to speculate about what’s to come for season 2. Stay right here for all the Riverdale dish and news.
