Guardians of the Galaxy’s Awesome Mix Vol. 2 Has Dropped And The Whole Galaxy Is Jamming

If anyone can rival Lin-Manuel Miranda’s skills at making a mixtape, it might be James Gunn.

Marvel fans, it’s time to start warming up for the next dance battle.

The studio has confirmed that Awesome Mix Vol. 2 will drop this Friday, April 21. As a bonus treat, our Marvel friends across the pond also released the track list for the movie. The 14-song disc once again utilizes songs that viewers definitely know, but may not know the name of.

When Guardians first released in 2014, it shattered records. Coming in at a 91 percent Fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie was an instant hit. To the surprise of Marvel execs, the soundtrack was just as successful.

So, when the movie ended with Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord discovering his mother had left him a second Awesome Mix, fans couldn’t wait to hear more. With hits from Cheap Trick and Fleetwood Mac on the setlist, James Gunn seems to have once again captured the essence of the time, using many of his own personal favorites.

This time, there’s an original song on the list, called “Guardians Inferno.” The song, written by Gunn and score composer Tyler Bates, is “meant as a sort of Guardians take on Meco’s disco Star Wars theme.” The team also recruited David Hasselhoff to provide some vocals (because they really, REALLY love us).

Though Marvin Gaye and Tami Terrell’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” is technically supposed to be on Awesome Mix Vol. 2, the song made it onto the first soundtrack after being used in the final scene of the movie.

For some, the soundtrack will just be the backdrop of the movie’s action. For others, the new mix could set up future storylines. One Twitter user, Hannah Rose, suggests that Awesome Mix Vol. 2 will finally lead Starlord to Earth. There, he’ll discover technology has evolved a bit.

While no crossover with the Avengers has been confirmed for this movie, the Guardians will meet “Earth’s mightiest heroes” in Avengers: Infinity War.
