As part of the many additions to the franchise, Lucasfilm revealed at SWCO’s The Last Jedi panel that Kelly Marie Tran’s character’s name is Rose.
If you ever felt that the Star Wars franchise was in short supply of awesome female characters, things are changing under Kathleen Kennedy and the days of looking at Princess Leia as the only female icon are long gone.
During the Star Wars: The Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, Josh Gad surprised fans in the audience by coming out on stage and declaring that he was hosting the panel. Afterward, he welcomed Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Episode VIII director Rian Johnson, and the film’s stars: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, and of course, Mark Hamill.
But for most Star Wars fans, everyone in attendance was pretty familiar with that roster, save for Kelly Marie Tran, a newcomer to the sequel trilogy. While we’ve heard various details about her affiliation with Boyega’s Ex-Stormtrooper, Finn, very few details surfaced surrounding Tran’s character.
Until now.
At the panel, Tran revealed that her character’s name is Rose. Further, we learned that she’s a Resistance mechanic.
Take a look at the character below:
Obviously, the character looks pretty awesome and pretty Resistance-y. But one of the things discussed in the panel was how small Tran’s stature is in comparison to Boyega or Ridley. So I for one would like to give a shoutout to Kelly Marie Tran for representing on behalf of all the short people.
In addition, Tran shared that she’d be going on an adventure with Finn. Considering the likely plot of the film and the beautiful teaser trailer, it seems like Rey will be on a separate journey to become a Jedi and reconcile Luke Skywalker’s diminished role in the Resistance while Finn seeks revenge … and sleeps in a pod.
Or something to the effect.

Either way, I’m very excited to see what Tran brings to the table as Rose when Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters this December.
