Let’s Go…Ride A Bike? New Mary Poppins Images Surface

Everyone’s favorite flying nanny appears to have a new mode of transportation in the latest Mary Poppins Returns images. But, it’s as silly as ever.

Mary Poppins has been known to travel by umbrella, carousel horses and chalk drawings. But, in these new images of Mary Poppins Returns, it appears she’ll be traveling a bit more conventionally: via bicycle. Of course, it’s no ordinary bicycle; this one seats five people.

In the sequel to the 1964 musical, Mary Poppins finds herself back on Cherry Tree Lane, at the Banks residence. Now fully grown, Jane and Michael have their own children. The images give fans a first look at the next generation of the Banks family. This time there are three: two boys, and what appears to be a girl (she’s hidden just behind Emily Blunt in these photos).

It looks like bikes might play a surprisingly large role in the film, as video of what looks to be a huge group number has also surfaced. Could this be our new “Step In Time”?

Though the lamplighters look to take center stage in the sequel, former chimney sweep Dick Van Dyke is set to make an appearance in the film, though his role has been kept under tight wraps. But at 91 years old, he’s still got the moves…dare we hope for a dance cameo?

Speaking of lamplighters, the photos also bring a closer look at Lin-Manuel Miranda as the film’s leading man.

The Hamilton creator – though he looks ready for a run in Newsies – will play Jack the Lamplighter. Mary Poppins Returns will also see Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth and Julie Walters bringing new characters to life.
