Great British Bake Off Contestant Makes Some Harry Potter Magic

We know that baking is magic. We also know that magic is magic. So if you add baking magic and magic magic, you get…?

Note: Contains slight spoilers if you haven’t watched season 7 of the Great British Bake Off (That’s the upcoming season 4 of the Great British Baking Show for the US fans.)

Time for some math. We know that baking is magic. We also know that magic is magic. So if you add baking magic and magic magic, you get…?

Tiny niffler loaves, apparently.

To refresh your memory, courtesy of Newt Scamander/Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (the textbook, not the movie) via Pottermore:

"The Niffler is a British beast. Fluffy, black and long-snouted, this burrowing creature has a predilection for anything glittery. Nifflers are often kept by goblins to burrow deep into the earth for treasure. Though the Niffler is gentle and even affectionate, it can be destructive to belongings and should never be kept in a house. Nifflers live in lairs up to twenty feet below the surface and produce six to eight young in a litter."

The resemblance is striking, no?

The niffler bread is the creation of Andrew Smyth, contestant on the seventh (and last real) season of The Great British Bake Off. For those of you watching The Great British Baking Show, the season Smyth’s in hasn’t aired yet. That’s okay! All you really need to know is he’s an adorable redheaded 25-year-old lad who uses his training as an engineer to create pretty darn magical culinary creations.

In a video uploaded on the official UK Twitter page for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (the movie, not the textbook), Smyth shows you how to make your very own lemon-zesty niffler.  Check it out below:

"Create your very own baked Niffler by following @cakesmyth‘s recipe, inspired by #FantasticBeasts https://t.co/Vzg4Q4gjr5— Fantastic Beasts (@BeastsMovieUK) March 29, 2017"

I am less concerned with the intricacies of the recipe, and more concerned with finding out how to be one of the girls armed with stand mixers in the video. The Great British Baking Show season 4 will air on PBS this summer.
