Seth Meyers vs….Jimmy Fallon? Trumpcare Too Large A Target To Ignore

With Stephen Colbert off for the night, Seth Meyers finds himself in competition with Jimmy Fallon. We don’t have to tell you who won this match up, do we?

Week after week, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers go head to head with the Trump jokes. That these two are the heavyweights in the political jokes division is no surprise. Colbert made his bones being a parody of Bill O’Reilly. The switch from basic cable to network has been hard for him, since it meant giving up that character, and that go to space for humor he can do so well. Meanwhile, Meyers has discovered that his best work in the Late Night game is doing a sort of a cross between his old SNL role from Weekend Update, crossed with an Americanized version of John Oliver.

Since Trump’s inauguration, the two of them have been the must watches of the evening, or, for those who can’t stay up that late, the first thing in the morning YouTube vids. And in that all important 11:35 pm slot, Colbert’s ratings have finally surpassed that of the inoffensive late night leader of the pack Jimmy Fallon, and he hasn’t looked back.

But last night, Colbert took the evening off, ostensibly ceding the evening to Seth Meyers, who, as usual, had a full 10 minute deep dive into the disaster that is unfolding on Capitol Hill over the horrifically deformed create that the GOP are insisting they much replace Obamacare with.

But! Into the void comes Jimmy Fallon, who has been grumbling that he needs to be seen as taking on Trump along with his other late night compatriots. But with a reputation born of hair ruffling, and Trump himself endorsing The Tonight Show, the situation had become dire. And besides, have you *seen* the disaster unfolding on Capitol Hill over the horrifically deformed create that the GOP are insisting they much replace Obamacare with? No comedian worth his salt could ignore it.

Clearly Fallon is rusty, and perhaps a little afraid this won’t work for him, though the jokes are solid. Let’s hope this heralds a new era where none of the late night comedians are pulling their punches when it comes to taking on the thinnest skinned president we’ve had in their lifetime.
