J.K. Rowling Reveals Title of New Cormoran Strike Novel via Twitter Riddle
By Ani Bundel
J.K. Rowling finally revealed the title of her next installment of The Cormoran Strike novels, via a Twitter riddle and guessing game.
For fans of J.K. Rowling’s newest series, starring detective Cormoran Strike, last year was an exercise in frustration. Since Finishing with the Harry Potter series and movies, Rowling has moved on to adult fiction, and her detective novels, penned under the name Robert Galbraith , have been arriving once a year, like clockwork, since 2013.
But with last year’s Potter fest, with both Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them landing on our doorsteps and transporting us back to the wizarding world, Rowling had to take a year off from Galbraith, delaying the fourth installment of the series, just as Strike’s secretary (and the real lead character in the series, no matter who’s name is on the cover) had run off to get married. Fans of the wizarding world might have been over the moon, but her mystery fans were forced to take a back seat.
But now, with the Beasts promised quintology in an off year, Rowling has rounded back to Galbraith. (One might argue she had to, the BBC series based on her Strike novels debuts at Christmas.) And this morning, she spent a pleasant couple of hours teasing her fans until one of them guessed the title of the new installment.
The guesses came thick and fast over the course of the morning, with Rowling marveling at one point that someone had guessed as a joke a title that was “one letter off”. Several were the sort of thing that made you wonder if this as a mystery novel or a badly conceived romance.
But finally, after enough trying, the monkeys with typewriters did in fact produce–no not a work of Shakespeare, but the proper title.
That winner?
As for a release date? No we don’t have that. But Rowling let us know exactly how far she’s gotten…
