From George Washington to Mary Poppins, Lin-Manuel Miranda is still the best right hand man.
Following the first look at Disney’s practically perfect reimagining of Mary Poppins, brought to life this time by Emily Blunt, fans got an additional spoonful of sugar with the latest image from Mary Poppins Returns. The photo introduces Mary Poppins’ friend Jack, played by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Trading in his military uniform from Hamilton for something a bit more casual, we have our first glimpse of Jack the Lamplighter.
Check it out:
The photo shows Jack, presumably at work, standing next to a London street lamp. The lamplighter appears to be looking to the skies, as though something (or someone) is coming. Sporting an ascot and newsboy cap, Miranda’s long hair and clean shaven face are no more.
The image comes from Twitter user Gordon Harrold, who included a few extra photos. Along with the first look at Jack, fans have gotten a new look at Blunt as the magical nanny.
These images mark the first appearance of Mary Poppins’ parrot umbrella, as she strides down a busy street. The continuing trend of the images? Plenty of color. Mary Poppins is now sporting a bright red coat, polka dot gloves and a blue hat and shoes.
Mary Poppins Returns picks up 20 years after the events of the original 1964 film, with the caretaker once again returning to Cherry Tree Lane. Now fully grown, Jane and Michael have children of their own. But, after a loss for Michael, the family needs help finding the joy in life again.
The sequel comes from Director Rob Marshall, who previously worked with Emily Blunt in 2014’s Into The Woods. The Poppins cast also includes Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth and Julie Walters. Mary Poppins alum Dick Van Dyke is also slated to have a small role in the sequel.
