What is Ron Weasley’s Best Moment in the Harry Potter Series?

Ron Weasley has a lot of memorable moments throughout the Harry Potter books, but when did he become a hero?

It took Pottermore seven books to fall in love with Ron Weasley.

Pottermore, the official Harry Potter universe site, has been posting articles about the moments that made them (and many other fans) fall in love with major characters from the Wizarding World.

For someone like Severus Snape, it makes sense that his crowning moment would be at the end of the series when we finally (finally!) understand where his loyalty lies. It’s a redeeming moment for Snape!

But for Ron Weasley, Harry’s best friend for the whole series, to only be “loved” in fans eyes at the very end of the series? That’s unusual.

According to Pottermore, it was in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when Ron destroyed the locket horcrux that he really became great. It’s an important moment for Ron’s character. After spending years thinking he was inferior, Ron faced his insecurities and gained self-acceptance. He realized that he may not be the brightest (Hermoine) or the most important (Harry), but he had value in trying his best, fessing up to his mistakes and always being a shoulder to lean on.

But is that really the first time we loved Ron? Pottermore seems to think this was the first moment of Ron-love, but he’s had plenty of other great, heroic moments throughout the series.

What about the trios first real adventure, when 11-year-old Ron sacrificed himself in a game of wizard chess? Or when he was only 12 and confronted his fears by walking into a forest full of giant, creepy spiders? Or when he stood up for Hermoine against Snape, or Draco Malfoy? Ron went into such a rage when Draco called Hermoine a slur, he accidentally cursed himself with slugs.

Or what about in Prisoner of Azkaban, when Ron gets up (on a broken leg!) and tells Sirius Black (who they think is a dangerous felon) that he would have to go through him to get to Harry?

It didn’t take Ron Weasley seven books to become a great character, he’s been that way since day one.
