A new Batman: The Animated Series game lets you play a villainous poker game like one of the show’s best episodes, “Almost Got Im.”
Batman: The Animated Series is basically the best adaptation of Batman to ever exist, and one of its most famous episodes is now a game.
The cartoon series from Bruce Timm and Paul Dini ran from 1992 to 1995, but in that short time, it managed to amass a slew of iconic episodes. There’s the Christmas episode where Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy kidnap Bruce Wayne for a shopping trip. Then, the one where a low-level goon seemingly kills Batman. Plus, the one where Mr. Freeze’s tragic origins are revealed. And the one where Batman tricks multiple villains during a poker match. Now, that one, “Almost Got ‘Im”, is the basis for a new card game by Cryptozoic.
In “Almost Got ‘Im,” four of Batman’s most iconic villains (Penguin, Joker, Poison Ivy and Clay-Face) are sitting down for a poker game and swap stories about almost defeating Batman. The twist is that Batman has infiltrated the game in disguise as one of the villains. This new card game follows that same basic premise, similar to party games Werewolf or Mafia.
Players will be one of Batman’s most well-known villains and have to work to find out who amongst them is really Batman in disguise. Meanwhile, Batman has to discreetly take out the other players without being caught.
Because “Almost Got ‘Im” revolved around a game of poker, the Almost Got ‘Im game integrates aspects of poker. From Cryptozoic:
"Poker hands also provide another key ingredient: Something to talk about! In most social deduction games, there isn’t much to discuss, except some arbitrary accusations and counter-accusations. In this game, players can talk about which cards they need to make their hands and comment on other players’ card acquisitions. When you discard a card, you may have more than one choice of what to get rid of. Why not ask the other players what to discard? Just try to avoid giving Batman the cards he needs!"

The game is recommended for 5-8 players and currently retails for $20 on Cryptozoic’s website.
