If, somehow, the vengeance story lines in all of the previously mentioned films weren’t enough, then you may as well reach for Jennifer’s Body. While this 2009 movie was hardly a critical darling, it’s way smarter than reviews may have led you to believe.

Annette “Needy” Lesnicki is an introverted, nerdy teen. She’s friends with Jennifer Check, a popular cheerleader, though the two have little in common. One night, Jennifer persuades Needy to accompany her to a local diver bar after a performance by Low Shoulder, a local band. A suspicious fire starts in the bar and kills several people.

Despite Needy’s pleading, a shocked Jennifer leaves with the band members. Later that evening, a bloody Jennifer appears in Needy’s home and begins raiding the refrigerator. However, she can’t digest the food and vomits black bile before disappearing. When Needy sees Jennifer at school the next morning, her friend insists that everything’s fine. Even when disemboweled corpses start popping up around town and Needy grows increasingly suspicious, Jennifer says it’s all good.

Of course, it isn’t. Eventually, Jennifer comes clean to her old friend. You see, the members of Low Shoulder really needed a boost when it came to recognition and money. Their totally reasonable solution? Make a virgin sacrifice to Satan. Hence, why they lured Jennifer into the woods the night of the fire. However, Jennifer was not a virgin and the ritual backfired. The band members survived, but Jennifer’s body (eh, get it?) was taken over by a demon.

Needy eventually kills what remains of her friend. She’s sent to an asylum but, because of a bite from the demon, has gained some supernatural powers of her own. Needy is last seen exacting revenge on Low Shoulder and becoming her very own villain.
