The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 10 “New Best Friends” Recap
The Walking Dead returned with episode 10 “New Best Friends” this week and we finally got the reunion we’d all been waiting for.
After last weeks episode, we were all wondering why Rick Grimes was smiling. After all, the group that was surrounding him didn’t seem too friendly. This episode, we understand why. As we learned on The Talking Dead last night, this new group is officially called the scavengers and it’s easy to see why, living in the depths of a trash-heap. And it looks like the scavengers are going to come in handy in the fight against Negan. If we can find some guns…
The Kingdom
The episode kicks off in an exchange between The Kingdom and the Saviors. Tensions rise as Richard and one of the Saviors pull a weapon on one another. King Ezekiel makes Richard hand over his weapon. The man leading the Saviors makes it known that things need to change or people will start dying. When will King Ezekiel finally realize that they should probably start fighting now?

Richard has this brilliant idea that maybe he’ll join the fight if someone he really cares about dies. He enlists Daryl to help so Richard hands him a crossbow, making Daryl the Daryl we all know and love again. Richard’s plan is simple- to kill a few Saviors and then make it seem like it was this woman in the woods who Zeke cares about. That way, the Saviors will take out the woman and Zeke will see how pertinent this fight is. He starts describing this woman to Daryl and he realizes who it actually is. Carol. Daryl tells Richard that he’ll kill him if he continues on with this plan.
Which leads me to the sweetest reunion I’ve been waiting for for what seems like forever. Carol and Daryl. Be still my heart. Daryl simply asks, “Why’d you go?” She finally explains to him why she left and that if she found out that the Saviors hurt anyone else she cares about then she’d kill them all. She asks if anyone else has died in the group but Daryl knows she can’t handle that so he lies.

Junkyard Games
Moving on to the other half of this episode, where we’re introduced to the weirdest clan of people we’ve ever met on this show. They speak in short and stoic phrases and have names straight out of fantasy books. Oh, and they live in a trash pile. This group is led by a woman named Jadis who claims that she owns Rick and the others life at this point. My question is how this woman can possibly maintain that haircut during a zombie apocalypse though.
Anyway, Rick explains that the Saviors actually own their lives and if these scavengers kill them, then the Saviors will come looking. Father Gabriel tempts the scavengers with a proposition. If you help us fight them, then they can have whatever they want from the Saviors. Jadis takes Rick to the top of the trash heap saying, “need to know if you’re real with this,” before pushing him into a fighting ring with a horned walker. First, he tries to kill it with a keyboard. Nice try, Rick. Then, with the help of Michonne, he buries it in trash, proving to the scavengers that he can fight and he means business.
Jadis is impressed but sad that he buried Winslow. Oh, apparently these people give walkers names. she tells him that if he can get them guns then they’ll join the fight against Negan. But where will they ever find guns!?
Ohhhh, Tara?
But will she give up the whereabouts of the Seaside Community? And will they take their guns? Or could they possibly just enlist them in the fight? After all, they have Negan and the Saviors too. So many questions to be answered in the upcoming episodes!
