Ex-Penn State assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky’s son, Jeffrey S. Sandusky has been charged with 14 counts of child sexual abuse.
Late yesterday, Pennsylvania State Police arrested Jeffrey Sandusky, adopted the son of Ex-Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky for sexual assault to a minor. WTAJ-TV is reporting Jeffrey Sandusky has been under investigation since November 2016.
According to the reports, the investigation began after a child reported getting text messages from Jeffrey Sandusky requesting naked photos. Another child has come forward with reports Sandusky asked her for oral sex. Sandusky’s lawyer, Lance Marshall declined to comment allegations but stated the 14 charges levied are statutory sexual assault, involuntary sexual intercourse, six counts of unlawful contact with a minor and two counts each of photographing or depicting sexual acts, sexual abuse of children and corruption of minors. He’s currently remanded to jail on $200,000 bond and is forbidden to contact any child.
If the name Sandusky sounds familiar, it’s because the arrest of Jerry Sandusky in 2011 shook the American sports world. Sandusky was arrested and charged with 52 counts of child sexual abuse over a 15 year period. The two-year grand jury investigation into Sandusky found he had used his non-profit charity for underprivileged and at-risk youth called The Second Mile to molest young boys. Jerry Sandusky was convicted on 45 of the 48 counts of child sexual abuse and was sentenced October 9, 2012, to 30- 60 years in prison. Among those who testified against him at the time was another of his adopted sons, Matthew Sandusky.
Penn State allowed Jerry Sandusky to keep an office on the campus even after his retirement in 2011 to continue his work with his non-profit The Second Mile. Allegations swirled that famed Penn State head coach, Joseph Paterno (JoePa), and others in football program knew of Sandusky’s sexual proclivities towards young boys and did nothing about it. Paterno stated equivocally he knew nothing about the allegations of child sexual abuse at the hands of Sandusky. After 45 years as Head Coach, Penn State decided to part ways with Paterno during the 2011 football season. He died two months after he was fired.
Just days after Jerry Sandusky’s arrest, Penn State commissioned Louis Freeh to conduct an internal investigation into the allegations of child abuse on the college campus. The Freeh Report was released July 12, 2012, and affirm emails dating back as far as 1998 that the Penn State football program and Paterno himself knew of the investigation into Sandusky. The most damning quote from the Freeh report is the fact is adults knew what was going on but did nothing to stop it. The Paterno family has rebuked the findings in the Freeh report and commissioned its own investigation. The results from the Paterno family investigation was not strong enough to walk back the allegations of the Freeh report.
