Zac Posen’s Latest Fashion Line Inspired By Betty Boop
By Ani Bundel
While Christian Siriano is trying to solve the fashion industry’s sizeism problem by designing for all women, Zac Posen is designing for Betty Boop.
New York Fashion Week kicked off yesterday, heralding the arrival of the Fall 2017 offerings from various and sundry fashion houses of all different sizes. But while some of the presentations will be held in staid and stately formats, with the clothing shown not arriving in stores for months and months later, some of the more forward thinking designers are aiming to have their designs to us in a far more timely manner.
One of these designers is Project Runway’s own Zac Posen, who dropped a press release not long after his line’s presentation announcing that at least two of the looks will be in stores as early as next Tuesday. They’ve been designed with a very certain segment of the American woman in mind: the ones who think the answer to the sexism of the Trump era is to dress like Betty Boop.
"The fashion industry is on “red” alert as Betty Boop steps into the spotlight with the world’s biggest arbiters of fashion, color and style: Zac Posen, Pantone Color Institute, and M·A·C. It will start with global fashion designer Zac Posen’s reveal of a signature Betty Boop dress collection in the exclusive Pantone “Betty Boop Red” in the March issue of Marie Claire. The reveal coincides with the launch of M·A·C Cosmetics’ “Betty Boop Red” Lipstick and an all-new three-part animated short featuring the original sass symbol."
(Note the tie in to MAC cosmetics and Marie Claire Magazine. One almost feels like Zac Posen has won a Project Runway challenge sponsored by them, in order to get his own spread.)
"“Betty Boop is the ultimate femme fatale and feminist,” said Zac Posen, “and it has been an exciting journey to work alongside the various partners to revamp her.”"

Well, I suppose to each their own in how to handle our new era. Christian Siriano has taken to dressing every woman larger than a size zero who has a red carpet appearance, and Zac Posen dresses Betty Boop.
