ABC Renews Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and HTGAWM for Another Season

Good news, everyone! The TGIT anchors will be back again next year as ABC orders another season of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.

If you habitually catch TGIT every Thursday night on ABC, then you know that nobody in the Shondaland or Shonda Rhimes camp has slowed down since each show’s respective premieres. Grey’s Anatomy started the night with a fiery episode that was true to form, while Scandal followed up with one of its most twisted and heartfelt episodes to date, and How to Get Away with Murder closed the night by throwing some shocking wrenches in our general direction.

Thankfully, ABC decided to play it smart and make sure all three shows deliver another season.

The longest-running show of the three, Grey’s Anatomy, will be heading into season 14. Currently, we already know that Jerrika Hinton won’t be returning. And since it’s Grey’s Anatomy, expect further changes to the roster as well. Further, Shonda Rhimes recently promised that a “true villain” will appear sometime later this season.

On the other hand, Scandal features some shady characters of its own. Additionally, it gave ABC a big ratings boost when it returned in January with its season 6 premiere. Though the season just started, it’s been a wild ride following the investigation into Frankie Vargas’ death. Plus, it may be the season of Jeff Perry as he delivers a masterful yet chilling performance as Cyrus Beene.

Then, of course, we have How to Get Away with Murder. As the newest of the three, it will head into season 4. Naturally, it will likely be an abbreviated season as well.

Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder continue to keep viewers on the edge of their seats and wanting more,” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to bring back these shows and the OMG moments that come with them.

And while we rejoice knowing all three shows will return, it’s possible that they won’t return as TGIT. Previous comments from Dungey state, “The truth of the matter is we’ve kind of been spinning things mostly around Thursday. There certainly is an opportunity for us to pepper them throughout the schedule.”

Frankly, I’ll watch Grey’s Anatomy no matter what day of the week it airs on.

But as of right now, TGIT airs every Thursday on ABC.
