Legion Season One Episode One Recap: Chapter One
Legion had its series premiere tonight and the show was everything we wished it to be. And who is surprised? It does have Dan Stevens.
The new FX show Legion premiered tonight and what a ride it was. From the interlacing of David’s reality versus what we’re seeing was great and there is definitely a cool set up for the rest of the season. But we still have a lot to learn about this show and what it is going to be about.
David and his Meds
David has mixed feelings about his meds. They make him have clarity and they lead the way to his recovery. He wants to go home but he can’t yet. But the meds are the first step along the path to getting out of the mental hospital.
When David goes to meet with the Interrogator, they take him off his meds for a few weeks. And when he got taken off of the meds, things got a little crazy. Especially when David started explaining what happened when Syd and he kissed.
David and Syd
Syd is a patient in the mental hospital that David ends up falling for. The two have a relationship until Syd gets released. Here’s the catch though, Syd doesn’t like to be touched. We never really know why, just that she doesn’t like it.
So as she’s getting ready to leave, David runs to meet her to say goodbye and kisses her. The kiss sends us into the mind of David (which is filled with moss and television sets) before sending both David and Syd flying across the room. We learn that the two have apparently switched bodies and David is Syd and Syd is David.
A Powerful Mutant
His entire life, David has believed himself to be a schizophrenic. But when the Interrogator comes into play, we learn that David is not crazy. And we learn it before probably one of the coolest flip out moments of all time.
David realizes that the Interrogator came to the hospital while he was still Syd. He calls out the Interrogator and starts to get angry until David truly uses his powers in one of the coolest ways: by taking out an entire room by flipping tables and making them fly everywhere.
David Goes Home
In the beginning of the episode, David’s sister comes to visit on his birthday and he asks about what will happen when he gets to come home. That question is answered when he shows up on her door step Halloween night.
It isn’t really clear what happened, unless when he and Syd switched bodies they could transform into one another whenever they wanted? But whatever it is, David gets to go home to his sister and it is actually really sweet to see.
Lenny
Lenny is David’s best friend in the mental hospital. We learn at the end that when Syd had David’s power, something happened at the hospital that resulted in Lenny’s death. I’m assuming we’ll learn more later on but for right now, we just know that something big happened after David as Syd left.
I Came Back For You. I Love You.
Syd ends up rescuing David from a pool where the Interrogator is about to electrocute him to bring David into her merry band of mutants. Ms. Bird takes David into her group and the end of the episode shows David going with them after a shootout to leave where he was captured.
Should You Watch It?
Honestly? Yes. If not to figure out what is going on with all the switches and jump, for the cool effects and pretty awesome storyline. And it’s a Marvel story so you know it’s going to be good! And, if you weren’t a fan of Dan Stevens before, you surely will be now. May I suggest going back and watching The Guest? You won’t regret it!
