Saturday Night Live Season 42 Episode 13 Kristen Stewart Recap

Saturday Night Live is back this week and what a break they have to cover. With the first two weeks of Trump’s presidency underway, SNL held nothing back.

Kristen Stewart took over the reins of Saturday Night Live this week! Let’s get straight into it.

Cold Open

Of course it started with a Trump cold open! Steven Bannon was an evil skeleton and the whole cold open was set around Steve being the puppet master to Trump. He calls Australia and gets in a fight and then proceeds to do it with multiple countries including Mexico and Germany.

To be fair, the fact that the Mexican president was played by a white man showed the lack of diversity on SNL‘s cast but still. The sketch was great and tore down Trump in the best possible way.

Opening Monologue

“If you didn’t like me then then you’re definitely going to hate me now. I’m hosting SNL and I’m like super gay dude.” Kristen did a great opening monologue. That is, until she dropped the f-bomb. In Saturday Night Live land, she just signed her death certificate to never show up to host ever again.

Remember when Jenny Slate was a cast member? No? Because she got kicked off for dropping the f-bomb. But other than that slip, the monologue was just about how cool Kristen is and how Aidy and Kate wanted her to like them.

Customs Instructional Video

This sketch followed someone making a customs video based on the Muslim ban and then he finds out the judge stopped it. Basically the entire video shows a man going through and listening all the countries people cannot come into the United States from and just says offensive things to people who look like they wouldn’t be allowed in.

UConn Dry Fridays

Ever get caught drinking in college in your dorm underage? Well then this might be the sketch for you! A bunch of kids have to go to a dry Friday event because they got caught drinking but Rebecca shares glimpses into her life, and it is a crazy one for sure.

She ends up telling these insane stories about where she ended up and how she got a nohawk. But really, it was a funny sketch and did a great job of building without it losing the funny really quickly.

Hungry Guys

The Hungry Guys sketches are always pretty funny but this one turned into a film festival movie and stole the thunder. Basically it is the same set up as normal but then Kristen comes as one of the guy’s sister and makes out with Vanessa Bayer.

Really, there is no way to express how amazing this was. You just have to see it.

C-Span

Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer is everything we ever wanted in our lives. “Everyone of the women were ovulating left and right.” Honestly, Saturday Night Live pulled out all the stops tonight and brought us the saving grace of Trump’s America.

Much like the Hungry Guys sketch, this is one you just have to see. It was absolutely incredible and brought us two new political impersonations with Betsy DeVos (Kate McKinnon) and Sean Spicer (Melissa McCarthy).

Alessia Cara

Alessia is only 20 years old and is killing it! She did an incredible job with both her songs. For someone who has never stepped foot on that stage before, she seemed to have no fears and just went up there to sing her songs.

She sang “Scars to Know You’re Beautiful” and “River of Tears” and both showed us all just how talented Alessia is.

Weekend Update

SNL has it easy when it comes to Weekend Update. With the insanity that has been the first two weeks of Trump’s presidency, it is almost like the jokes wrote themselves. Basically the news segment was just everything that happened since SNL was last on.

They touched on the Super Bowl with David Ortiz and it was pretty much the same as always. Funny but nothing new.

Celebrity Family Feud

This sketch was maybe the weakest of the night. But that’s not to say it wasn’t funny. In fact it was still pretty funny and would be the highlight of any other episode of Saturday Night Live if this one wasn’t so amazing.

Basically it was just Falcons fans vs Patriots fans, but the celebrity edition. It was “What to Bring to a Party” and the answers were weird and funny and basically it was just a funny sketch but paled in comparison to the rest of the night.

Meet Cute

Ever see a movie an see two people fall in love and then somehow know where to meet each other and go on a date? Well, now you don’t have to wonder what happens anymore because Saturday Night Live showed us all what happens.

Steve (Pete Davidson) meets Claire (Kristen Stewart) in a coffee shop. They agree to go on a date but exchange no details. Claire seems to know where to go but Steve spends the entire day trying to find Claire. He needs figure out where to meet her until he somehow ends up outside her apartment building.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie wins the golden ticket and gets mad when he realizes that his Grandpa can walk. That’s it. That’s the sketch, and it’s incredible. It’s just so simple and funny and it was a great way to end this show!

Saturday Night Live was incredible this week. If this is what it’s going to be like in Trump’s America, we’re totally into it.
