Constance Wu Slams Casey Affleck’s Oscar Nomination

Constance Wu calls out Casey Affleck, who was nominated for an Oscar for Manchester by the Sea despite being accused of sexual harassment.

Early on January 24, in this new dystopia we live in, Casey Affleck was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the critically-acclaimed film Manchester by the Sea. Typically Oscar nominees are congratulated for their nominations by fellow actors. But since past sexual harassment cases from 2010 against Casey Affleck came to light late last year, the actor has faced some criticism publicly. And it seems like the Oscar nomination brought out frustration and anger of Fresh Off the Boat actress Constance Wu, who (like the rest of us) is sick of this.

Wu attacked the decision of The Academy to reward “performance” over “human integrity” in a series of tweets:

But hey, Constance isn’t the only one upset by Affleck’s nomination.

Constance didn’t stop at one tweet. No, her follow-up tweets ponder the role of art stating that “art isn’t about humanity, right”.

It’s no coincidence that our President was still elected after admitting to assaulting women on tape and a man who has been charged with sexual harassment (and settled by the way) can possibly win an Oscar. The safety of women isn’t a priority in this country–the blatant and public proof is disheartening. Oh yeah, and if you’re a woman you shouldn’t even make this observation because that too is a threat to the patriarchy (and your career). Ask Constance Wu:

It’s especially interesting to note how Casey Affleck’s past sexual harassment claims didn’t derail his chances at an Oscar while allegations of rape did for The Birth of a Nation star and Director Nate Parker. But that’s a whole other discussion.
