We saw only a glimpse of Leta Lestrange in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but she’ll play a bigger role in the sequels.
Leta Lestrange is important to Newt Scamander. He and Queenie Goldstein talked about it in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, although they were frustratingly short on details. As of now, all we know is that the two have an ongoing relationship.
With Newt heading back to Europe for Fantastic Beasts 2 (actual title to come), there’s a good chance he’ll reunite with Leta. She’s a member of the notoriously unstable Lestrange family. Zoe Kravitz, who played her for a split second in Fantastic Beasts (Newt had a photo of her), discussed the character with Collider.
Leta and the Films
First up, while Kravitz doesn’t have all the details, she thinks she’ll be in “a few” of the Fantastic Beasts sequels, of which there will be four. “The relationship between Leta and Newt Scamander is a complex relationship, so I think there will be a lot of time for that to grow and develop, which will be fun,” she said.

And don’t hold out hope that Kravitz will get more details in the future. From the way she described her one day of work on the set of Fantastic Beasts, it sounds like Warner Bros. is maintaining a lot of secrecy. “The script was very under wraps, so even signing onto it, I hadn’t read the script,” she said. “I just went off of who was involved, and J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter films, so I knew it was going to be incredible, especially with how involved J.K. is.”
She knows even less about Fantastic Beasts 2.
"I know nothing! I have an idea, based off of when I auditioned, but I know nothing. Even when I went to go do my chemistry read with Eddie, he was trying to help me piece together what was happening in the scene that we were reading. He doesn’t get to see anything either, so he was like, “I think based off of this line and this line, and what we shot here and here, this is what’s going on.” We had to guess. It was funny to watch him, trying to piece it all together."
Those plot points will start to become clear sooner or later. Until then, Kravitz can be seen in HBO’s Little Big Lies, premiering February 19. Fantastic Beasts 2 will hit theaters on November 16, 2018.
