The Defenders Could Very Well Get a Second Season If Krysten Ritter Gets Her Way

Although the first season of The Defenders hasn’t even premiered yet, Krysten Ritter has already made it known that she’s here for a second round.

The Defenders hasn’t finished shooting yet, to say nothing of it actually hitting Netflix. However, Krysten Ritter, also known as Jessica Jones, would very much like to shoot a second season already. She has, in fact, said so to Entertainment Weekly.

“If they want to do a Defenders 2,” she told EW, “I’m in.” Presumably part of the reason Ritter is down is because of the other thing she told EW: that she and the three other stars of the series work about three days a week thanks to all of the moving parts involved in The Defenders.

Other than that, though, a The Defenders 2 seems like a pretty reasonable expectation. Netflix has doubled down on its original content as of late. The Marvel miniseries collection has already gotten an extra series in the form of The Punisher. We also know that Daredevil will make it to a third season. Additionally, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones will get second seasons at well.

Right now, just Iron Fist hasn’t earned its second season. However, it hasn’t even premiered yet, and won’t do so until this March. So long as it keeps up the quality of storytelling established by the other three series, it seems like a pretty safe bet that it will also get a second season. Marvel and Netflix have both benefited from this set of series. Marvel gets to tell some more mature stories than what it can get away with on the big screen, and Netflix gets to point out that it’s the home of still more critically-acclaimed TV. Daredevil even has some Emmy nominations to its name, and Jessica Jones actually has an Emmy (granted, it’s for its opening theme, but that’s still an Emmy).

In other words, if everything falls into place, Ritter may just very well get the second season of The Defenders.
