There’s Probably Another X-Men Movie Coming That Sort of Got Spoiled Early

Fox is tripling down on their X-Men action even despite middling reviews for their last outing. Four in-the-works movies? Better make it five!

Fox has a lot of X-Men movies coming down the pipeline. First up is Logan, probably the last Wolverine movie we’ll see. Beginning production soon are Deadpool 2 and X-Men: New Mutants. And in pre-production hell is the forever-plagued Gambit.

So if you thought we were lacking in X-Men projects, Fox would like you to know that you are absolutely correct. We need more.

For the last few months, there’s been a production date of May 2017 that everyone just assumed was New Mutants with a different working title. But then a recent installment of My Production Weekly listed a new outing alongside New Mutants:

X-Men: Supernova.

According to this, New Mutants starts production in April while Supernova starts in May. Of course, Fox hasn’t said anything confirming or denying this just yet, but you can bet Fox isn’t about to stop making X-Men movies.

All of the hints dropped regarding the next outing after X-Men: Apocalypse have included going to outer space in a retelling of “The Dark Phoenix Saga” because we all know The Last Stand doesn’t exist.

“Supernova” was also a comic book storyline in the 2000s about Rogue leading a band of mutants against the Children of the Vault. But it’s so obscure that it’s safe to say this movie won’t revolve around that.

No, redoing the Phoenix Saga makes a heck of a lot more sense for the future of X-Men movies. If Apocalypse did anything right, it was making up for the mess that was The Last Stand in a matter of about fifteen seconds. We saw Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey unleash her inner Phoenix power to defeat Apocalypse at the end of the last movie.

You can’t really leave that untouched.

Still, we’ll wait to see if Fox confirms this or not. In the meantime, Logan is the next X-Men movie up to bat, hitting theaters March 3.
