American Horror Story To Continue Through 2019
By Tina Wargo
The hit FX series, which ended its AHS: Roanoke season in November, has officially been renewed through its ninth season.
In a culturally relevant and all-so-fitting move, in the midst of our real-life national nightmare, FX has announced that American Horror Story will be renewed for seasons 8 and 9, which will take us through 2019. Having already announced a seventh season, which will begin airing this fall and is as-yet untitled, this announcement comes as welcome good news, because if anything is going to get us through at least half of the new administration, it’s gonna be Sarah Paulson (most likely) and Lily Rabe (probably) doing a lot of yelling and/or ass-kicking (almost definitely).
The anthology series has famously rebooted its storyline each year, reusing the same cast of characters but throwing them into new, horrifying sets of circumstances, so it’s fair to assume this model will continue. And with no word to the contrary from FX CEO John Landgraf, who reminded us in his announcement that “each new chapter is a cultural event, beloved for every new twist in imagery, style, cast and plot,” the mere speculation of where the next few years will take us already has me more excited than almost anything currently on television.
And if the series continues its practice of weaving each of its previously-standalone seasons into one another? Well, then, the next few years are looking to be, if not just as confusing and convoluted and tricky as we’d thought, at least as titillating.

Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have yet to let us down (in a meaningful way, at least. Still not forgiving them for Jessica Lange’s exit, tbh. Never will.), and really, the possibilities for future seasons are endless. Though last year’s mystery theme was a bunch of creepy, crawly fun for a while, the anticipation of a new season announcement is, pun intended, killing us. And now that we have at least THREE MORE themes to guess at and look forward to, you can bet we’re not going anywhere until the likely long, painful, bloody death of this magical series. Here’s hoping it outlives *our* American horror story.
