The Good Fight Trailer Gives Us a Reason to Subscribe to CBS All Access

The Good Fight unleashed its first full trailer that raises the stakes and puts all your lingering Good Wife worries to rest.

It was a sad day when The Good Wife ended. Not because the show’s writing was at its peak or anything, but we were all going to be one lawyer show short of some amazing female leads and snappy dialogue. But Robert and Michelle King, the creators of The Good Wife and its spinoff, understood that. And that’s why they’re going back to the drawing board and turning their attention to Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart.

While Julianna Margulies / Alicia Florrick is no longer the star of the show, the new trailer makes it appear as though we don’t need her. (No offense.) Check it out below:

Yeah, Diane said a bad word. And yeah, it was awesome. Because The Good Fight will be available exclusively online (except for the premiere which airs on CBS on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 8/7c), the rules are more lax. At the Television Critics Association, Michelle King shared, “These are educated people. They are cultured, elegant. What you hear will not sound drastically different. But they will use swear words that you would have expected in The Good Wife.”

As the trailer easily paints, the show starts with Diane announcing her retirement. Just when she thinks her life will be smooth sailing, a financial scheme wipes her out. She’s left with no job and no money. Along with old pal Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo will be reprising her role from The Good Wife) and her goddaughter Maia (newcomer and Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie), Diane starts up a new firm and goes back to square one.

Of course, the story seems simple enough. But The Good Fight looks like it going to cover every base we’ll be looking for in the Donald Trump era known as 2017. That’s feminism, politics, LGBT characters, and women who don’t give up after life kicks them down.

So, once I finish watching the new trailer for the fourth or fifth time, I’ll be signing up for CBS All Access. Great.
