In a surprising but not entirely shocking move, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly is leaving her 12-year post with the Fox News Channel and is headed for newer waters.

She’s one of the mainstream’s most popular anchors with a primetime spot that usually tops the weekly ratings. Now, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly has officially dissolved her relationship with the Channel and is set to take a spot with NBC News.

NBC made their official announcement earlier today. According to the press release, she’s headed back to an hour-long daytime slot, which will air Monday through Friday. The content has yet to be determined. But in what’s being called a “multi-year agreement,” she’ll also take over a Sunday evening news show and contribute to NBC’s breaking news coverage.

Kelly began her time with Fox News in 2004 as a Washington correspondent. But she quickly rose in the ranks, landing the popular afternoon spot America Live with Megyn Kelly, before settling in the primetime spot with The Kelly File. She reportedly made $15 million yearly with the Channel, making her the second highest-paid anchor behind Bill O’Reilly. Her contract with Fox was set to expire this summer.

Turbulent Relationship

The 46-year-old has also been mired in several layers of controversy since the entirety of the 2016 election process began. She’s experienced several spats with then-GOP candidate Donald Trump, especially during the debates hosted by Fox News.

Over this past summer, Kelly also spoke out to several opposing stations about allegations of sexual assault within Fox News. Former anchor Gretchen Carlson lobbed several accusations against former Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, many claims of which Kelly went on to confirm in her new memoir, Settle for More. Carlson has since settled a $20 million lawsuit with Fox and has also left the network.
