Poldark: 3 Questions for Episode 6

After the last episode of Poldark, we’re left wondering about George’s next plan, what’s going on between Dwight and Caroline, and more.

Note: Have you forgotten what happened on last Sunday’s episode of Poldark? No worries. Culturess has a recap ready for you.

Anyone else still fanning themselves from the ending of last episode? Putting stockings on and tying garters never looked so good. Anyway, Poldark heads ever closer to the conclusion of its second season. Although some problems were taken care of last episode, some persist into episode 6 and beyond. Let’s take a look at 3 major questions moving forward.

How long will George wait before proposing marriage to Elizabeth?

Using money to destroy Ross has fizzled out once again. What’s a Warleggan to do?

Simple: Marry a Poldark widow. Conveniently, there just so happens to be one. Said widow also happens to be Ross Poldark’s first love who ended up engaged to his cousin when everyone thought Ross dead.

Twist the knife a little deeper, George, and hurry up. Season’s almost over.

By the way, “Oxford or Cambridge?” is probably the equivalent of looking at school districts in your dream neighborhood for George. He’s clearly carried a torch for Elizabeth for some time. The fact that marrying her would hurt Ross is the icing on the cake.

Do Dwight and Caroline just elope?

Although the preview for next episode has Demelza asking Dwight if he’s going to go be with Caroline, it’s unclear whether he means to join her in London or somewhere else entirely. (Gretna Green, anyone?)

Frankly, hasty marriages are rather the norm for main characters on this show, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they did end up running away.

With war looming, Dwight may end up in the military once more, and it’d be nice to know that he has someone waiting for him at home. Moreover, Caroline doesn’t have to worry about her uncle disinheriting her. She’s already proved she can do precisely what she likes with her money, up to and including buying Ross’ entire debt.

A secondary question here would be: How long does it take Ross to find out the identity of his benefactress? Does he find out at all?

How badly will the smuggling operation go?

Storing things in his own house is a step up and a step deeper for Ross himself. The money might be good, but with his loan safely out of the hands of George Warleggan, quick cash like smuggling just became far more dangerous.

Charlie, a local, briefly saw the smugglers’ opening up a space in the floor of Ross and Demelza’s house. It doesn’t seem likely that he’d talk, but the above-linked preview shows a fight breaking out on the beach at night.

In other words, the good luck the smugglers have enjoyed so far appears to have run out. The question isn’t one of failure, it’s a question of how big the failure is.

Hopefully Ross avoids any prison stays this time. Demelza would likely kill him the second he returned home.
