Ivanka Trump Finally Loses Her Cool

Ivanka Trump lashed out in an interview when she was asked some questions she didn’t want to answer regarding her father’s proposed maternity leave policy.

During a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Ivanka Trump had a little meltdown as she was faced with facts that she disagreed with. It must be a genetic condition. The Donald’s daughter is usually known for being well-composed under pressure, but the stress of this election is obviously getting to her.

The topic of the interview was her father’s proposed plan for maternity leave, which leaves a lot to be desired. The plan allows for six weeks of paid leave from work for a mother that gives birth to a child, and only for her. It makes no mention of paternity leave for the father or anything for another mother in the case of a same-sex couple, and it also doesn’t provide anything for parents who choose to adopt a child.

The US already lags behind other developed countries in regards to paid time off for new parents. Trump’s new policy proposal is an improvement on the current situation (there is no mandatory federal parental leave policy as of now), but not much of one. Six weeks off only for the mother who has given birth leaves other new parents out of the picture. The idea of parental leave is supposed to give new parents time to bond with their child and adjust to a drastically altered lifestyle. It isn’t fair to leave fathers or adoptive parents or any other type of parents out of the picture.

When pressed to explain why the plan leaves so many people out, Ivanka became uncharacteristically upset and defensive. She did not want to elaborate further and accused the interviewer of being too negative. It’s a classic strategy passed down along generations of Trumps, just direct your hostility towards the interviewer and try to distract them if you don’t want to answer their questions.

It’s unusual to see the calmest member of the Trump family act this way. It’s an interesting glimpse of what lies just behind her stone-faced demeanor. Her father is known for his erratic behavior and hostility towards the media, and it seems to be rubbing off on his daughter. She’s doing her best to stand up for her father, but this could be the beginning of her downfall.

Although Ivanka claims to be a defender of maternal rights, the company that makes Ivanka Trump branded clothing doesn’t offer any paid time off for new parents. This goes directly against the things she has said in the past about believing maternity leave to be vital to the health of a new mother. If she wants to frame herself as an advocate for women, she needs to actually do something that shows she cares about women.

In the same interview, she claimed that her father’s maternity leave proposal is the only one on the table. This is a plain lie, as Hillary Clinton has already released the proposal for her own plan. Clinton’s plan would offer up to 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents— all new parents.

Ivanka seemed to be the only stable, even-keeled person on the Trump side. She’s been a perfect “we need to appeal to women” pawn in the game, but she’s quickly being revealed as a hypocrite and a liar.

She’s obviously starting to buckle under pressure and in due time, the whole Trump campaign will likely fall apart under the weight of all the lies and deceit it has been built on.
