We check out some of the outfits shown at NYFW by the Project Runway contestants that we haven’t met yet, and wonder if this is really the best they can do.
It’s hard to know what to make of Project Runway’s first foray into showing at NYFW before we have met the designers. We can’t play our usual guessing game of “which designer showed what?” because we have no idea who any of those people are yet, or how they might grow and surprise us. In fact, with little info coming from inside the tent, now that places like Blogging Project Runway have folded up shop and Tom&Lorenzo have long since lost interest, I’m not even sure how many collections walked. (I’m pretty sure I count six below, but I’ll admit the sixth is more “outfits that can’t possible be from those other collections.”)
It looked like five or six, which means there were dummies. Certainly, I hope some were, because otherwise we had some superdull finalists. Not that Project Runway contestants always bring the fire. But at least most of the time, one can write off the truly one note stuff as “dummy” ville.
Of course, the main spoiler, since we don’t have contestants to match up to the looks is the guest judge for the end of the season, And for once, I’m excited: Zendaya!

This is the former Disney Princess’ second time with the franchise, having previously appeared on Project Runway: Under The Gunn. (Lifetime is owned by Disney, didn’t you know?) there, they designed her a look for her Disney show. Now she’s all grown up and judging the finale. Let us all now sing “Sunrise, Sunset” and contemplate our mortality.
When you’re done doing that, let’s go look at the clothes.
