Recently, Wizards and Whatnot reported that Emma Watson donated a pair of jeans to Jeans for Refugees. The fundraiser supports the International Rescue Committee, which is an organization that helps refugees worldwide. Following his former co-star, Daniel Radcliffe has donated as well. The Potter stars are well-known for supporting charities and causes, but they aren’t the only celebrities on board.
Together with the Potter pair, 98 others have thrown their pants into the ring to raise money and spread the word. In addition to these big names, other prominent celebrities have voiced their support for this particular charity. Elton John, Kate Moss, P!nk, Ryan Gosling, and Usher are among those involved with Jeans for Refugees. This project definitely brings together talented individuals from all walks of entertainment.
Each of Johny Dar’s paintings represents the dynamic personality of the celebrity that the jeans belonged to. Dar says that Daniel Radcliffe’s painted jeans have that Harry Potter magic, coupled with hints at the new avenues the actor has been exploring throughout his career.

"“There’s a dynamic movement in the design of his jeans, and different painting techniques incorporated–hand-drawn geometry, and arrow patterns (which reminded me of Harry Potter’s signature scar) in blue and indigo that play with the cut and movement of the denim. And details in 3D metallic steel along the legs, like a code. Painting Daniel’s jeans was a steady ride, with a sense of complete confidence.”"
Despite his defining role as Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe has been making a name for himself apart from that identity since before the franchise ended with Deathly Hallows. Although he is grateful for the experiences the films gave him, Radcliffe ultimately wants to move on from that. Still, the jeans have that signature HP feel, and the current bid is at $323.
Meanwhile, the bid for Emma Watson’s jeans is currently more popular, and is sitting at a whopping $1,762. The design fuses the personalities of Hermione Granger and Watson into a single pair of jeans. Dar says they show off Watson’s own fairy tale.
"“Emma has her own personal fairy tale going on that shows so nicely in how her jeans turned out. I really loved working on these–it was like painting a story and getting to know it while I painted.”"

The jeans display the brilliant mind of both Hermione Granger and Emma Watson, as well as the causes they each support. Moreover, this artwork represents both women’s belief in and fight for equality, which is a notable connection between the two.
The Jeans for Refugees website describes Dar’s project as a “global initiative facilitating innovation, communication, and collaboration to raise funds for refugees worldwide.” Not only will the hand-painted jeans be auctioned off at catawiki.com on October 30, but they will be put on display the week before. Equally as exciting as the auction itself, the jeans will go into a week-long exhibition at London’s Saatchi Gallery, starting October 24.

I have checked out a few of the other celebrities’ jeans, and similarly to Radcliffe’s and Watson’s, you can really get a sense of the individual that donated them. Thanks to Jeans for Refugees, these old jeans won’t be tossed in the trash, but will become works of art with a purpose in mind. All proceeds will go to the International Rescue Committee.
