It is strange to think the last time we saw Ross and Demelza were well over a year ago. We have finally gotten a glimpse of what is to come in season two of Poldark when it premieres on September 16th. It is a doozy.
The end of season 1 of Poldark our dear Ross has lost the smelting company and was arrested for murder and wrecking. Demelza is just recovering from diphtheria and having lost her child, Julia. Life for the Poldark’s is looking very grim. Demelza is completely alone. She is floating in the wind like Julia’s ribbon bracelet. Poldark left everyone wanting more due to its season one dark ending. Like most BBC shows we have to wait over a year to get our next installment. We finally have the season two trailer and it is nothing short of amazing.
The song choice is the first thing you notice about the trailer. The song is Missile by Dorothy, and it sets a tone for season two of the 18th century period piece.
"I am the missileI am the fireLove is destructionBut this war is mineThis war is mine"
We can assume this is establishing the tone of a very combative Ross Poldark. He is in jail and will be on trial for his life. Ross is going to raise a whole lot of hell in Cornwall if he is going down. Poldark is ready to take down aristocracy he was born to live. He is eager to point out the working classes exist in extreme poverty. The local gentry holds on to their wealth and privilege with an iron fist. Ross is also going to have a confrontation with his arch-enemy, George Warleggan. We can only assume Ross Poldark is fighting a war for his freedom, the working class people of Cornwall and George.
Demelza will be fighting her own personal war. Ross is willing to give up everything to show the aristocracy the hypocrisy of their actions. Demelza must save her husband because he will not save himself. She will also have to deal with Elizabeth still making heart eyes at her husband. In season one Demelza was submissive when it came to her husband. We hope season two is going to have a more assertive Demelza. Hopefully, she will finally tell Elizabeth to back off.
The long hiatus of Poldark did bring some good news. In July 2016, the BBC announced the third season of Poldark has been commissioned. Not many shows get a third season greenlight before showing the first episode of the second season.
