It is almost time for the Warner Brothers panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. In a few minutes, the panel, which will include news about the upcoming return to the Potterverse, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will get underway in Hall H, and we’ll be bringing you all the news as it breaks.
As a reminder, here’s who is appearing on today’s line up:
"Director David Yates with stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller and Colin Farrell from “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Clips will be shown, and right now we’re running on hope that one of them will be a full on trailer released to the public."
For those unfamiliar with how SDCC works, unlike some conventions there’s no live streaming of the panels. (They want you to attend.) So for live blogging purposes, we’ll be rounding up tweets from those who were lucky enough to get inside the room where it happens, and we’ll update and refresh this post as we gather it.
So stick around. Make yourself at home in the comments section and let’s all hang out and nerd out over whatever news and stories the production feels they can give us without actually letting slip any major spoilers.
For those who are looking to follow along on Twitter, the official hashtag is #WBSDCC.
Let’s see which movie they start with. The assumption is that this two hour panel will dedicate the first half to their DC offerings, so it may be a while before we get to the Potterverse.
(The room is apparently packed by the way, with people having camped out overnight to get into this, today’s first panel in Hall H.)
For those who might need a reminder why Fantastic Beasts is such a big deal for the WB: currently Marvel is still beating them soundly in the comic book movie race, with 13 hit movies to DC’s 2 box office successes that were both critically savaged in the press. Fantastic Beasts, meanwhile, has the lane to itself.
Team CoCo, etc.
The WB wants to remind everyone that Harry Potter was the property that held their studio aloft for a good decade.
Conan starting off by introducing the “sizzle” reel.
As expected, they’re kicking off with the DC films.
Lovely shot of the room!
We’re going to be chilling back for a while, since this is the DC portion. If anyone brings up Fantastic Beasts or Potter though, we’ll be sure to note it.
The DC directors have left the stage and now we’re going through the movie releases.
Off topic, but I liked the Wonder Woman trailer. First DC trailer I’ve liked, to be honest.
We’re moving on to a big surprise from the DC folks: the cast of Justice League.
No one likes waiting like this.
I forgot Ezra Miller, who is Credence in Fantastic Beasts, is also in Justice League. Let’s see if anyone asks him anything about the Potterverse.
No questions. They literally just brought them out, posed them, played a clip and then cleared them out. Good. Let’s keep this moving.
Once the Suicide Squaders clear out, it’ll be Kong time. So Fantastic Beasts is closing the panel.
For those interested (or bored) while waiting for Fantastic Beasts to start, here’s the Justice league footage with Ezra Miller as The Flash:
Feels like DC trying to make a Marvel movie. Except, you know, darker.
Ugh. The wait is interminable. But with both Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter Lego figures now part of the LEGO Dimensions world, there is hope that Lego versions of the lead characters will cameo in the sequel.
Ok, now we’re on to KONG.
I’m just saying, if Fantastic Beasts *doesn’t* get a trailer at this point, Imma be real annoyed.
…………………are you kidding? The panel is supposed to *end* in 8 minutes. Are we going to run over then?
None of the live tweeters care about King Arthur. They’re all using this to take a break and catch up on all the DC stuff. Or get coffee. LOL.
I’ll put my GoT hat on and care about that later.
FINALLY!
Yates is up.
Consider this a blanket statement for everyone.
Eddie Redmayne!
And now….jealousy.
And there IS A TRAILER.
Wands up for the new trailer!
And now, the panel.
Reminder that they may not actually tell us anything new.
Photo of the full panel.
I believe we get letter to Ilvermorny over here actually.
That’s not a bad point actually.
Sweet. By the way, some of those costumes are on display at WB London this evening to celebrate the panel at SDCC.
Just sayin.
Trailer should be up on YouTube momentarily. We’ll post it as soon as it is.
Also, they knew WB needs the Potterverse like we need air.
The panel has ended. They ran over like whoa. We’ll post the video feed from it tomorrow when it becomes available.
Until then? Trailer time.
