San Diego Comic Con 2016 has finally arrived. Today kicks off the first of the four day entertainment bonanza of cosplay, convention panels entertainment news and most of all, long lines. For those fans who are not able to fly themselves to California to attend the mecca of pop culture, but are looking to know when all the news pertaining to the Potter fandom will be coming, we’ve got the schedule right here.
The first thing to note is there is no official Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them stand alone panel. Instead it has been rolled into the Warner Brothers movie slate panel, which will also include details on the WB’s other big movie, Suicide Squad. The second thing is that you needn’t worry about much news at least today and tomorrow: all things Potter are happening during the latter half of the event on Saturday and Sunday.
Here’s the schedule:
- Warner Brothers Studio Panel, Hall H on Saturday July 23rd, from 11:30am-1:30pm PST. Director David Yates with stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller and Colin Farrell from “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Clips will be shown, and right now we’re running on hope that one of them will be a full on trailer released to the public.
- Official cast signing session for Fantastic Beasts, Warner Brothers Booth on Saturday July 23rd, from 3:00-3:30pm PST. Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing to the booth the cast from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, including Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller and Colin Farrell, along with director David Yates.
- “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Wand Master Training Station”, Warner Brothers Booth, Thursday-Sunday.
- “A World After Harry” Room 28DE, Saturday July 23rd, from 1-2pm. YA writers Sarah J. Maas (SDCC special guest, author of Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses series), Laini Taylor (Strange the Dreamer), Jessica Cluess (A Shadow Bright and Burning), Gena Showalter (Firstlife), Thomas E. Sniegoski (Savage), and Soman Chainani (The School for Good and Evil) engage in a rousing discussion of the joys and challenges of crafting fantastical narratives that stand on their own and how the genre has evolved moderated by Tobie Easton (Emerge).
- Fantastic Fans & Where to Find Them Room 6A, Sunday July 24th, from 10:15-11:15am. Moderated Heidi Tandy (FictionAlley) is joined by journalist Elizabeth Minkel (New Statesman, Fansplaining), educator Dr. Ebony Elizabeth Thomas (Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania), event organizers Adrienne Alwag-Aipia (Los Angeles’ Dumbledore’s Army) and Alexa DiGennero (Leviosacon) and creative fans Stephanie Pressman (Harry Potter Improv), Rachael Vaughn (Snapecast), Justin Zagri (Severus Snape & the Marauders), Elizabeth Barcelos (U.S. Quidditch), and Kat Miller (MuggleNet) to discuss the magic of new canon, including Harry Potter & the Cursed Child (no spoilers, they will “Keep the Secrets”), Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them, and the excitement and creativity in Harry Potter fandom.
And finally a reminder that Funko is releasing both the Newt Scamander figurine (which will be available world wide in September), plus an exclusive trio of Limited edition Pop! figures for the convention itself, considing of a Cronish Pixie, a Grindylow and a Mandrake. Get your hands on them today!
