While the Harry Potter phenomenon revs back up this month to retake its rightful spot at the top of the pop culture pyramid, those who rode the wave the first time around are moving on with their careers to successfully infiltrate all corners of entertainment. For some, it’s tredding the boards live on stage. For some, it’s hitting the big time on the small screen, or the big screen in new ways. And for some, it’s being the subject of their own work of art.
We’ll start off with the two Potter alumni who are currently doing live theater. First up is Alfred Enoch, whose small screen big hit How To Get Away With Murder returns to ABC this coming September 22nd. In between seasons, he hit the stage at the Royal Exchange Theater’s King Lear.
Speaking to The Huffington Post UK, he says being on stage he’s discovered is his favorite form of acting. “Not that I like it more than TV, but the release of being on stage is very exciting to me. There comes a point when you go on and it’s beyond any rehearsal or correction, you just have to commit. When you’re in the wings, and you have to go on, it can be very freeing, but you have to trust that you’ve done enough work. I find that exhilarating.”
Let’s hope that exhilaration extends to his co-star Matthew Lewis, who is scheduled to star in the live production of Unfaithful. The run starts at the Found111 theater on August 25th and runs through October 8th. Here’s the synopsis:
"Following the critically acclaimed, sold out productions ofThe Dazzle and Bug at Found111, Emily Dobbs Productions is thrilled to present the London premiere of Unfaithful, a blackly comic new play starring Sean Campion (The Borgias, Stones in his Pockets), Niamh Cusack (Heartbeat, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time), Ruta Gedmintas (The Strain, The Tudors) and Matthew Lewis (Harry Potter film series, The Syndicate)."
Meanwhile, over the weekend at the London Star Wars Celebration, Warwick Davis, who played more than one character in the Potterverse was confirmed to be heading back to a galaxy far, far away. He appeared in costume for the newest Star Wars installment Rogue One as part of the behind the scenes reel.
Speaking of long standing franchises, as we’ve probably all heard by now, Tom Felton has also recently been confirmed to be joining one. Felton has been cast as a yet undisclosed role for Season 3 of The Flash. And now, he’s getting fitted for the costume.
And finally, Katie Leung has taken to being part of a different kind of art. She’s the subject of a brand new painting by figurative painter Carl Randall, and is part of his latest collection on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London
The only question we have is if her portrait slips out after the museum closes to have a pint at the nearest pub or not. Somehow, I think it probably does.
