What are the actors from the Harry Potter movies up to these days? Stuff—that’s what they’re up to, and we’ve got the scoop on all of it. Let’s dive in.
First up, Emma Thompson, known to Harry Potter aficionados as Professor Sybill Trelawney, can be seen in the new trailer for Bridget Jones’ Baby, the third movie in Renée Zellweger’s ongoing attempt to have it all while effecting a convincing British accent. She plays a doctor, and can be seen in the trailer palling around with Jones over the latter’s pregnancy mystery.
Check out the trailer:
I hope Thompson got paid well for this, that’s all I’m saying.
Elsewhere, Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) talks about what it was like working under a lot of makeup and special effects in Alice Through the Looking Glass. See above, re: I hope she was well-paid.
Quoth Carter: “I got paid s**tloads.” That solves that, then.
Moving on to one of Bellatrix’s relations, Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) is playing the lead in an acclaimed National Theatre production of Terence Rattigan’s The Deep Blue Sea. According to Broadway World, a performance of the play from the National’s Lyttelton Theatre will be broadcast to cinemas around the world on September 1. She plays Hester Collyer, a woman who’s tangled romantic life unfolds itself after a failed suicide attempt.
We’ve got news about one more Malfoy family member for you. Per Variety, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) has joined the cast of The Death of Stalin, which is about what it sounds like it’s about, only it’s from Veep creator Armando Iannucci, so they’ll be some black comedy and satire in there, too. Isaacs joins a cast that also includes the likes of Steve Bucsemi and Jeffrey Tambor, with Adrian McLoughlin as Stalin himself.
Timothy Spall, meanwhile, can be seen in a trailer for Denial, where he plays a Holocaust denier. Wormtail’s staying true to form.
Meanwhile, Toby Jones (voice of Dobby) will join Game of Thrones’ Art Parkinson in Zoo, a family-friendly movie about a 12-year old and a group of friends who try to save a baby elephant during the air raids on Belfast in 1941. It is “based on a true story,” which I’m guessing means that the writer saw an elephant once and got an idea.
Let’s keep this celebrity train moving. Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick and Griphook the goblin) will be cohosting the Star Wars Celebration Europe Cosplay Championship at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. In addition to playing multiple roles in the Harry Potter series, Davis has also played multiple roles in the Star Wars series, so he’s a geeky national treasure.
And finally, rising star Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) will start filming on Darren Aronofsky still-untitled-but-probably-brilliant drama about “a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.” Gleeson, who’s stock has been rising since his appearances in movies like Ex Machina and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will star alongside such heavy-hitters as Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Jennifer Lawrence. More power to him.
