With the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie making a splash at VidCon this week, Scholastic has brought forth an announcement on the status of the re-release of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook that was originally published back in 2001.

As we reported earlier this year, the slim volume would be updated in light of the movie’s release, with was was called “new content.” We know know that that content is actually a brand new forward for the textbook written by Rowling herself. The cover art, which has not been fully released (but was hinted at, as you can see from our top image) is also being redesigned to put it in line with the updated cover art by artist Jonny Duddle that is currently adorning the original Harry Potter series.

Now we have a release date for the updated text: March 14th, 2017. And with that release date set, the volume is officially available for pre-oreder.

From the press release:

"Scholastic is pleased to announce the publication of a new edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2017. Publishing on March 14, 2017, the book will contain a new foreword from J.K. Rowling, a new cover design and original illustrations and doodles by J.K. Rowling throughout.Publishing on 14th March 2017 the book will contain a new foreword from J.K. Rowling and a new jacket illustrated by Jonny Duddle. The book will also contain black and white illustrations throughout by Tomislav Tomić.An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since publication, Newt Scamander’s masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world."

As a reminder, with the publication of this updated Fantastic Beasts, the book will not longer be bundled with Quidditch Through The Ages and Tales of Beedle The Bard as part of the “Hogwarts Library” set. Those have been redubbed “Hogwarts Classics” and are now simply sold as a pair without Fantastic Beasts. This should also not be confused the the script of the movie of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is also being released, on November 19th, 2016.

But with the movie being a full trilogy by the time it is done, this re-releases is most likely only the beginning of what might be an entire Fantastic Beasts focused set of books, especially since Scholastic made a deal with Warner Brothers to be able to do so.
