With all the talk about the new cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, we should not forget about the old cast of the original Harry Potter movie series. Several of them have announced brand new projects this week.
We’ll start with Ralph Fiennes, who is still best known for his noseless time as Voldemort. Variety is reporting that he’s been cast in a brand new villainous role, and though he’ll get to have a nose this time, he’ll be deformed in other ways. He’s playing the notorious hunchback king of Shakespeare’s Richard III, a role that was only just done on the BBC by Benedict Cumberbatch. Fienne’s take on the evil murderous king who was the last in the line that reigned during the time known as “The War of The Roses” will be seen a bit farther than the BBC’s walled garden.
Richard II – 2000
Royal Shakespeare Company
Almedia Theatre Company
Directed by Jonathon Kent
Designed by Paul Brown
"Almeida Theatre Live will give worldwide audiences the opportunity to see plays from the stage at the Almeida’s London home for the first time. Almeida and distributor Picturehouse Entertainment are partnering to broadcast “Richard III,” produced by Illuminations. The production will be filmed using multiple cameras around the stage and auditorium, with John Wyver as producer. Wyver currently produces the RSC Live from Stratford-Upon-Avon international broadcasts, and with Illuminations he previously worked on filmed versions for the BBC of “Hamlet” with David Tennant and “Macbeth” with Patrick Stewart, which was directed by Goold. For the screen, Goold also directed “Richard II” for the BBC’s “The Hollow Crown” series."
Meanwhile, another cast member is getting on the BBC. Anna Shaffer, who played Slytherin mean girl Romilda Vane in the last three Harry Potter movies has been cast as part of the Doctor Who spin off Class. Class is set at Coal Hill School, where the last companion, Clara Oswald, was a teacher. Coal Hill School was also where the original companions under the first Doctor, Barbara and Ian taught, and where the Doctor’s “granddaughter” Susan attended school. Described as “Buffy meet the Whoniverse” the show will air on the online only BBC 3 next season.
Gary Oldman, who played Sirius Black for the middle three Harry Potter movies also has a new role. He’ll be playing the role of Nathaniel Shepherd, a NASA scientist in charge of sending astronauts to live on Mars in the movie The Space Between Us. Check out the trailer:
And finally, someone noticed that Daniel Radcliffe and Elijah Wood look very creepily alike now that they’ve both transitioned from child stars to adult celebrities and decided to creep us all out with a gif of it.
