Matthew Lewis, who played shy introvert wizard Neville Longbottom, is starring in the British romantic drama Me Before You. His character, Patrick, is a personal trainer and boyfriend of the film’s main character, Louisa “Lou” Clarke, who is a caregiver for wheelchair bound Will Traynor. Lewis was interviewed on set about his role and the his relationship with Lou.

Speaking about his co-star Emilia Clarke, Lewis says she is “such a great energy” and extends the description to the whole project. He refers to the director as a “dream” and enthusiastically says that the cast is “having far too much fun” but is somehow managing to film on schedule.

We’ll have to see if his great experience on set translates into a good movie on screen when it’s released this year.

Interviewing about new projects always brings Lewis back to Harry Potter though. Speaking to FAULT magazine, he admitted that though he had tried to get away from Neville Longbottom, it was only fitting that he was back in the Potterverse when the news came through about Alan Rickman in January.

"I was at Leavesden Studios the other day, visiting the set of Fantastic Beasts and I was with the producer who did all the Harry Potter films. He was taking me around the studio when the news came through. We were both just completely stunned. But also, to be in the studio when that came through, suddenly every room that I went into, every corridor that I walked down on, I suddenly remembered a story or an image of Alan. It got a bit odd. It was quite surreal. But also, powerfully moving as well. It was quite nice to be there. All those happy memories came flooding back and I got quite nostalgic actually. I went back home last night and just watched loads of interviews with him. It’s hard to describe. On his last day, I had a cup of tea with him in his trailer and we just sat and chatted about the future of my career and what I should do. He just offered me advice in where I should go and he said some things to me that filled me with a lot of confidence. And when you hear those sorts of things from someone of his stature, his ability, it means a lot"

Me Before You may not hit theaters until this weekend, but Lewis is already on to the next project:

After his teaser on Twitter, it’s been confirmed that Lewis is joining Mike Meyers, Simon Pegg, and Margot Robbie in a still in production noir thriller Terminal (not to be confused with The Terminal). IMDB summarizes the plot as “Two hit men go on what seems to be a suicide mission while working for a mysterious employer. Annie, who may surprise the hit men with her level of involvement in the mission.” and lists Lewis as “Lenny” but it is unknown what part he plays in the plot (he is not one of the hit men though).

It looks like Lewis is definitely interested in keeping a busy acting schedule because he has voiced interest in returning to the role of Sean Balmforth on Happy Valley. The combination sex addict psychopath character was wrongly accused of murder in the award-winning British crime drama. The third series has been given the green light by BBC One, so BANG Showbiz came right to the point during an interview, asking Lewis to address the speculation and he commented:

"“I have absolutely no idea if I’ll return for the next series! Obviously the characters sort of arch when that series came to an end but he was a dodgy guy like I’m sure he’s got a few more skeletons in his closet so who knows, we’ll see, we’ll see whatever [the writer] Sally Wainwright’s got in store.”"

And what’s a celeb roundup without a little controversy! Lewis appeared as a guest on Sunday Brunch, a British show that broadcasts live on Sunday mornings that features cooking and celebrity interviews. The topic of the segment was pizza and involved a cheese laden taste test.

Things took a bit of an odd turn when Lewis ate his pizza with a knife and fork and got ribbed by the other participants about it. He quipped “I was brought up properly, me” when asked about it. The twitterverse erupted with commentary both for and against the utensil usage. Where do you stand on the fork vs hands for pizza issue?
