Matthew Lewis, known for his role as Neville Longbottom, continues to thrive in his post-Potter career.

More from Harry Potter

Matthew Lewis has been demonstrating lately that his talents as an actor aren’t limited to the big screen. From stage work like Our Boys on the West End, to television productions like Happy Valley, Lewis is taking on new roles that show his interest in challenging himself as an actor. His newest project, the narration of the audiobook Alien: Out of the Shadows, is a departure from Lewis’s previous work, which has always been accompanied by strong visuals.

In a recent Interview with HuffPostUK, Lewis reveals his strategy for dealing with fear is “To not listen to fear but to use it.”

"“It’s very easy to shy away from risk and challenge but we only get one shot at life and it could all end tomorrow being hit by a bus. Somethings you will never be “ready” for so just do it. Nothing is more satisfying than agreeing to something that scares you and then coming out the other side having nailed it. If it doesn’t work out, so what, do something else!”"

Although the sci-fi drama written by Tim Lebbon is different from the fantastical nature of Harry Potter, Lewis is once again taking on a role in a well-known franchise. He proved his ability to hold his own among a star-studded cast as Neville Longbottom. It would be an easy step for him to once again take the screen as an action hero. Given his infamous transition from a once-timid young wizard to a Horcrux-slayer in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, it would not be hard for fans to imagine. But in Lewis’s new project, he works with the medium of audio alone to allow fans to visualize a thriller.

As a self-described “Man of simple pleasures,” being removed from the intense visual elements of a production and working hard to immerse himself in the story is right up Lewis’s alley. Based on positive customer responses for Alien: Out of the Shadows, his efforts have been rewarded.

Though Matthew Lewis has displayed a diverse range as an actor, it seems as though he’s not opposed to returning to large franchises or action stories. Perhaps we will get a movie with Neville Longbottom as our saviour after all.

Whether Lewis continues to find new forms of acting challenges or becomes the next male lead in an action film, one thing is for certain: Bright things are ahead.
