Last week’s opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood has been a plethora of Potter goodness. With all the Potter alumni on hand, we’ve had interviews aplenty on the subject of the movies–both the original ones and the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, plus Tom Felton and Evanna Lynch playing tour guide, and interview panels.
But one subject that hadn’t come up is the stage play that’s currently rehearsing in London’s West End, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Not to worry, the cast were asked about that too–especially since, unlike Fantastic Beasts, which is set in the past and centered around a new group of characters, Cursed Child is set in the future, and might even include characters they once played.
As suspected, there is no info spilled about the play’s details–one got the sense that neither James or Oliver Phelps, nor Warwick Davis had much more information about that than you or I. But Davis is just chomping at the bit to reprise his role as Professor Filius Flitwick once more, according to Hollywood Life.

“To be back in something that has been created by J.K. Rowling and something that goes on to have a life beyond that is exceptional and it would be lovely to do that!”
I surely hope he gets to play Flitwick once more, he always added comic relief when onscreen.
As for the Phelps twins, according to SnitchSeeker, they are interested in not only what Harry is up to but what Weasleys Wizard Wheezes brand will become. When asked about another actor being recast for George, Oliver Phelps responded: “Don’t do that. Get me. Yeah, that’d be it, honestly.” With no Fred to play, perhaps the twins could pull a Full House-ish set up and trade off? Hey, it worked for MaryKate and Ashley!

Hopefully SOON we will get more details about Cursed Child. We know the cast is for the play, but we don’t know roles yet. And of course, there’s the all important question of if it will come to American shores on Broadway, or maybe even one day the movie houses. I hope we get another movie out of it, even if the cast is the one from London’s West End, and not the original movie actors. Though considering the time frame, by the time the show runs in London, then runs on Broadway, then goes on National Tour and then a movie is put into production, Radcliffe and company might have aged enough to reprise their roles as believable 40 somethings. And by that time, they might have changed their minds about never doing those roles again either.

Either way, it will still have that J.K. Rowling magic (no pun intended) to it. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child goes into previews next month, and opens July 30th, 2016.
