Does it feel to you like a whole lot of trailers suddenly came out in the last few days? Not just the one for Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, but also Star Wars’ Rogue One, Suicide Squad, with Doctor Strange promising another one today, just to name a few. The reason for the season, my friends, is that out in Las Vegas, CinemaCon is on!
For those unfamiliar with the event, this is the “Official Convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners.” Basically, all of Hollywood treks out to a hotel in Las Vegas where they struggle mightily to convince theater owners–both national chains and and stand alones around the nation, that their movies are the ones they want to book on the most screens in their theaters when they open. To that end they bring along never before seen footage, behind the scenes videos, and make huge announcements of the latest spin offs in order to impress those who hold the fate of their movies successes in their hands.
Warner Brothers presentation was part of Tuesday’s session, and much like at the MTV Movie Awards, they saved their biggest splash–Fantastic Beasts–for last. Most of the movie’s cast was on hand: Eddie Redmayne, Alison Sodul, Dan Fogel and Colin Farrell. (Katherine Waterson was unable to make it.) According to those tweeting from inside the room, there wasn’t much in terms of new footage–the trailer was the same one we saw Sunday. Instead, the exclusive video was a behind the scenes look, including an interview with J.K. Rowling, and a single new “scene.” (The videos that show at these things very rarely are released to the public or on line, so chances are we won’t get to see it ourselves.)

The Behind the Scenes did include one new scene:
Speculation is that these might be Ilvermorny students, but that was just a few Twitter guesses.
Let’s hope the theater owners were impressed! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be out in theaters (and hopefully booked on many screens) this November.
